Robert Hansen, a baker in Alaska, would kidnap sex workers, fly them to the remote wilderness and release them, telling them if they made it back to civilization that they were free.
He then hunted them after giving them a head start.
Convicted of 17 murders, it's believed he could be responsible for up to 130 murders.
The movie "Surviving the Game" is partially inspired by his crimes. The plot point of giving the hunted a head start before the hunt begins and if they make it back to civilization then they win and are free comes from Hansen's crimes

Israel Keyes was more prolific than the 3 murders. The guy was meticulous and scary.

You misread the comment. Gacy, Dahmer, and Bundy were all insane, socially awkward, or showed some signs of being a psychopath. Gacy was an absolute freak and got in trouble before. No surprise there. Ridgeway was a very low key guy and flew under the radar.

The show was excellent, and I saw it first and bought the book later.
But the book is cool because it goes into a ton of detail about just how they profile people and how the whole industry of profiling was created. And also how fricking accurate and good at the job they were.

99.9% of his victims will never be found. But, there is no doubt he was very prolific. And all over the country and possibly international. He even spent some time in the New Orleans and Lafayette areas. They found one of his kill kits in LaPlace in the Bonnet Carre Spillway area recently.

One of the FBI's prominent Behavioral Science Agents who would interview serial killers has stated that Keyes is the one who terrified him the most.
While most didn't like that they killed, didn't know what compelled them to kill, where the urge came from, and wanted to know why they were the way they were...he was different.
They believe that he may have been abused by his father, but he denied it. His parents were extremely god-fearing people that lived a lifestyle similar to Amish. He was banished from his family in his late teens for renouncing his Christian faith.
His response to his new found religious freedom was to desire commiting a ritualistic killing
Nobody made him into what he was through abuse or manipulation. He did the things he did because he enjoyed it. He was just evil.

Where Bundy was finally captured for the last time was 2 miles from where Jim Morrison was conceived. The Door's song Rider's on the Storm is at least partially about a hitchhiking serial killer, and it was written 3-4 years before Bundy's first murder.

The Gay Houma Serial Killer was definitely a weird one.
Guy started in Kenner tricking men of a certain drifter lifestyle and entice them with a photo of a woman asking them if they wanted to have sex with them. He would ultimately tie up the victims and then asphyxiate them and dump their bodies in isolated areas to be found days or weeks later.
In the early 2000's he moved to Houma and ultimately killed 23 people.

The podcast True Crime bullshite goes into great detail about Keyes and his potential victims. It doesn’t have the best production quality, but I appreciate how much detail the podcast host goes into Keyes.
It’s almost to an obsessive level
ETA: but yeah, Keyes is the wildest one. He went through such great means to cover his tracks when committing the crimes, but ultimately I think he lost control and just started making mistakes. When he was early in “the game” he would fly into an airport, rent a car, and drive hundreds of miles to commit his crimes so that there was no easily traced record of him even being in the town/city where the crime occurred.

Omg. I just went down a rabbit hole on him. There’s still articles and videos of the teen victim from Anchorage online, including an alleged ransom photo where he propped her up to look alive, but she’d been dead 2 weeks. That poor girl.
