re: NCAA committee considering 7-figure fines, head coach suspensions for transfer violations

The only way to save the sport is to end association with the NCAA entirely and replace it with a governance entity appropriate for the sport
We’re 8 years into the portal and 5 years into NIL and the number of issues that have been there from the start is comical. The number of issues that have grown and have not been touched is even worse. It’s pathetic
The future of college football does not include the NCAA
The problem isn't the NCAA, it's the Conferences and the schools.
What good would starting a new regulatory body accomplish if the same conferences and schools don't adhere to their rulings as well?
NCAA makes a decision on eligibility and if the school doesn't like the ruling, they get the courts involved and subvert the system with no consequences from the conference.
Disbanding one regulatory body to form another isn't going to solve anything. Chances are if you abolish the NCAA, you'll end up with multiple replacements causing more chaos

lost;grievances filed by schools and coaches trying to avoid payment/loss of payment due to being suspended half the season.
What grounds would they possibly have to file a grievance?
The rules are known. If they break the rules, they are already aware of the consequences.
The only way they would have "loss of pay" is of their own fault.

Would also give any school with a coach punished by this an easy way around paying buyouts after firing said coach.
Getting sanctioned and put on probation by the NCAA has always been an easy way for the school to avoid buyouts. Why would any school not agree to this?

There is not right to employment. But there also isn't a right for an employer to force an employee to stay and not accept another job elsewhere.
Nobody is forcing anybody to stay, but they can't leave and go to another member of the same organization (NCAA).
Like a "No Compete" Clause.
They could go to a school outside of the NCAA, like JUCO or NAIA.
Same with the Schools. They don't have to be a member of the NCAA, but as long as they are they should be held accountable for following the rules and regulations and the rulings of the NCAA.

This is grandstanding by the NCAA trying to levy power they have lost. A toothless organization showing off fake teeth.
They are only toothless because the member institutions and Conferences are too chicken shite to fulfill their roles in adhering to the conditions and rules they agreed would be arbitrated by the NCAA.

The problem that some of y'all seem to have is that y'all think that there is an inherent right to employment.
Y'all keep talking about the "rights" of the players, but this has nothing to do with the players. It's about the programs aka the businesses.
Businesses don't have rights, they have rules.

Well currently the NCAA has a rule against spring transfers (so penalizes player).
How so?
They used to have to sit out a year, this is no different. I'm sorry you missed out on the starting job, but you'll have to wait until next January to try another school.
Hell, maybe you get the chance to start during the season or after summer camp.

Those institutions have players though who would be affected by such punishments
Companies have employees who would be affected by punishments from the SEC for breaking rules.
NFL teams have players who are affected by punishments levied at the franchise and the coaches too.
Stop the bullshite on the institutional level and you can still preserve CFB.
SEC should step in and tell Ole Miss and every member of the conference that the rulings of the NCAA are to be honored (all conferences should do this) or consequences will be imposed.
The only way to save the sport is for the Conferences to tell their members "No, you can't ignore the NCAA's rulings" and give their support to the NCAA.

Those have all been agreed to with collective bargaining. This hasn't. This is akin to an employer saying you have 2 weeks out of the year to change jobs.
The schools have agreed to the formation of an oversight organization whose purpose is to create a level of balance and equal guidelines for all conferences to adhere to.
The punishments proposed are not for the players, but for the institutions who have agreed to be8ng a part of the overall organization.
The players may not have a collective bargaining agreement, but the schools do.

Well currently the NCAA has a rule against spring transfers (so penalizes player). Plus will argue that harsh penalties against school for taking a spring player illegally suffocates the free market and hurts the players value.
Every sport has a specific time frame for free agent signing and also for trading.
Any signings outside the specified period must meet certain criteria before it's allowed.
How is this any different?
There should also be "no contact" rules for coaching hires

English was pretty bad so everything was pretty lost in translation
Speaking of lost in translation: the French kid that lived with my best friend's family had a little "welcome" party so he could meet their families and some of us friends.
My friend has family from Kaplan who were there and they started talking to the French kid in Cajun French.
He looked at us and said, "I have no idea what he just said. That's not English is it?"
" Nope. That's French."
The only person born and raised in France simply replied "That's not French."

But I do remember one girl from Germany that stayed with a really strict, religious family. She liked to smoke and they were having none of that.
Same thing happened to a German girl and a French girl (different hosts)at our school.
French girl seemed pretty miserable the entire time she was here because she never got to go do anything unless school related (either academic or extracurricular activities related to the school allowed; no recreational teams or groups). I think she went to one dance, homecoming.
But the German girl didn't give a shite about her host family's beliefs of "acceptable" behavior and the rules they had, or their interpretation of the Bible. Told them "I'm going to hell anyway, might as well remain Catholic.
That fraulein would be at every party, bonfire, pool/hot tub night, and dance we had. Her host "sister" in the same grade never attended a single one of those things throughout the entirety of high school.

My junior year of highschool I befriended two of the foreign exchange students: one lived with my best friend's family and the other lived with our neighbors (spent most of the time at our house because the people he was staying with were just horrible.)
Both were two of the most intelligent, kind, friendly, helpful, and funnest people to be around. (Watching them experience our culture and emerse themselves in it resulted in countless laughs and ribbing)
I'd say go ahead with it, just decide which gender you and your wife think would be a better idea (better fit, more comfortable dealing with as a guardian, etc) for your family. Remember: they are going to be a part of your household and family for at least 9-10 months. Don't tell the program that you don't care who they assign you, you'll be stuck with "no good option for host" students. Real conditions to be met before you host anyone in your house.
***If you are offered a Danish student, take them in, male or female. The one who lived nextdoor was Danish. Those people are awesome and are basically the MAGA Republicans of Europe.

I think it's a pretty interesting interesting topic. Looking at the facts, maybe we should rethink who the true Athletic Bluebloods of the SEC are.
Big 5:
LSU - none of you come close to matching Championships
Tennessee
Kentucky
Florida - actually have more NCAA championships than LSU, but started late with 1968 Golf being your first. (Add unrecognized by NCAA and we have more than you)
Tulane - left the conference 20+ years before the rest of you even won your first.
BIG5

1933 Men's Track
LSU brings home hardware in the inaugural year of the SEC.
As for the rest of the original conference teams, only Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida and Tulane won an NCAA title before the 1980's. (Includes pre-SEC formation. Nobody outside the 5 listed won a single NCAA championship before the 1980s.)
Remember: there is no NCAA Football Championship.
