What serial killer fact sounds fake, exaggerated, or straight out of fiction. But is 100% real?
Read Robert Durst, a real estate heir worth hundreds of millions, agreed to be interviewed for an HBO docuseries called The Jinx while being linked to multiple murders. In the final episode, he forgot his mic was still on, went to the bathroom, and muttered to himself "What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course." He was arrested the morning the episode aired.

The Zebra killers.
Especially since nobody's heard of them.

Gary Ridgeway. Convicted of 49 murders, very well possibly committed up to 60.
For comparison, Gacy had 33, Bundy had 30, Dahmer 17 and Zodiac just 5. Those 4 names are probably the first 4 people would come up with when asked about notorious serial killers but Ridgeway just flew under the radar for all those years, and still does somehow.
ETA: Also, LatAm serial killers are in an entirely different league

Do long haul truck drivers as a whole count? They have a body count in the thousands.

Do you know the Muffin man
The Muffin man, the Muffin man

Who lives on Drury Lane?
Oh yes, we know the Muffin man

I don’t know about sounding fake, but John Wayne Gacy having over 20 bodies buried in the crawl space under his house has always blown my mind. That’s some sick stuff.

Dude was absolutely mild mannered and quiet as can be. Looked and acted like a regular guy. Gacy, Bundy, and Dahmer were all in character and surprised nobody.

Didn't Bundy break out of court? Then go on a killing spree including the FSU sorority house where he killed a bunch of girls with a fire log? If true, that's some Michael Myers shite.

Other than a Canadian film crew, I was the first person to figure out where Sean Vincent Gillis lived. I knocked on the door and his girlfriend Terri answered. She invited me and 2 of my friends inside and gave us a tour of the house. She showed us a binder of photos from after the police raid, and his computer which was full of saved news articles of Derrick Todd Lee. He was obsessed with DTL.
Crazy enough, I knew Pam Kinamore (DTL victim) because my stepdad was good friends with her husband, Mr. Byron. We would get together for football games, and grill. Before they moved to Briarwood, had a house with a pond in the front yard, and that is where I learned how to fish, and caught my first fish.

Theodore Kaczynski, although I guess he is considered a domestic terrorist.. He killed 3 people and injured a lot more.. He was a math prodigy and had a BA from Harvard, a professor at Michigan. The details of him and his views can possibly be seen as exaggerated..maybe:?

There's this taxi driver in Houston Josh B
he was a character around the courthouse downtown. He ended up running into Durst at a Starbucks and there's hired him as a jury consultant at like $10,000 a month for 4.5 years it was the first thing the family cut off when the nurse family got control of his trust after this conviction.
I would run into him every now and then eating lunch somewhere downtown LA times did a story on it
He was about a 5 ft 6 300 lb white kid with thick glasses and always wore oversized t-shirts and shorts.

In the 1980’s, a 50-something year-old Sacramento woman by the name of Dorothea Puente began dressing up like an 80-something year-old woman to gain the trust of a series of elderly and disabled folks to whom she rented rooms in her home. She subsequently drugged, unalived, and buried them in the backyard. Continued collecting their social security and disability checks that were now arriving at her address.

Yes, he did that to one girl there. He also assaulted another one of the Florida State girls with a hairspray body and bit into her butt.
Bundy frequently visited his dump site on Taylor Mountain (Washington) to have sex with his victims decaying corpses until he couldn’t anymore
He decapitated a few of his victims and kept their heads as trophies.
I’m going to stop here.

Ridgeway did also. He started killing the prostitutes because he didn't want to pay them.

The details of "The Soap-Maker of Correggio.”
Not super prolific, but the lady made soap and teacakes (which she fed to people; including herself and her son) in order to dispose of the bodies.
I adapted her story for a gaming session of Call of Cthulhu years ago.
Additionally, I think it’s wild that Baton Rouge had three active serial killers roaming around at one time in the early 2000s, and then you had that guy killing gays in Houma-Thinodaux at the same time as well.
