re: what point do you give up on the job search?

As someone who owns a business and has had to go over resume's I feel where you are coming from. But you probably should see where the employer is coming from as well.

I will put out a posting on Indeed and I'll say that within the first day I will get 35-40 resume's in my queue. I have to bracket out time to read these resume's and at best maybe I give your resume about 30 seconds before I move to the other.....so you better wow me in your executive summary, or cover letter.....so few people know the effectiveness of a good cover letter.

In a week, I'll get over 100.

Yeah I can do that. Obviously help desk isn't my dream job but it puts me on the path where I want to go. I was thinking network admin or something like that eventually. The point is I will hopefully be better off in 10 years than I would have at my previous job.

I always sent thank you notes after job interviews. Was always told I was the only one who did that. Nailed the job I was trying to get.

You are in Baton Rouge right? Go to the chambers of commerce website and look for the list of all the businesses in Baton Rouge and look at places that might not be the exact industry you are going for, but could be close to it to some degree and just start sending out resumes. They don't have to have a job opening, just send it.

There are a lot of companies who only post job listings on their website. frick indeed half of those ads are spam. You got to put some elbow grease into that shite and work all angles.

Start working on getting IT certifications, that will help you out more than the degree itself.

When I post a job for my company on Indeed, I get so many responses I cannot even read them all (literally hundreds). And you are then looking for things that stand out from the crowd to differentiate the applications. If you can figure out how to apply directly (to companies that are posting on Indeed) or to make your resume stand out from the herd, it would be helpful. Good luck.

The manager of that department said that you are already on his list to interview.

I took a layoff in 9/2013 and spent a few months looking for a full time job doing the same thing. Didn't find anything, so I took independent contractor spots for a few months until I landed a full time gig.
