I got tired of working my low paying dead end job and decided to go back to school. I graduated from BRCC in December and have been applying to jobs since last year. According to indeed I applied to 15 jobs in the last two weeks, probably around 50 since the start of the year. Most of the time I never hear back from them. I would say I get an interview a little less than 10% of the time.

I was contacted by a recruiter a few weeks ago now I can't get him to respond. I have emailed employment agencies with barely a response. At this point it looks like I will never work in the field I'm trying to get into. I fear I will be forever stuck working dead end jobs. Is there a point where you give up on your dreams to just take whatever you can get? I want nothing more than to work and make a decent life for myself but it seems impossible now. I've got two college degrees in completely different fields and over 10 years of a stable work history and I can barely get companies to even talk to me. Getting harder and harder to stay positive but I still try.

I know a guy who's been out of work for more than two years. I don't know how hard he's looking but he's still signing in to his Linkedin once in a while.

Boy do I have a gig for you. Be your own boss and manage your own company. Have you ever heard of Primerica?

Keep trying. It took me 6 months after graduating to start my full time job. The economy was shite back then, and I didn't get a lot of interview offers for the first 3 months. I ended up with two really good offers, but that was the worst 6 months I've ever had.

Just keep applying and networking anyway you can. Good luck.

My degree from BRCC is in computer networking. I know its just a two year degree but it should be enough for an entry level job. Mostly looking for help desk or something of that nature.

Took me about 8 months from the time I started applying places last year until I actually had an offer in hand a few weeks ago. Once you see the jobs on indeed, go to the company's website and apply via their site. I got a lot more phone calls with recruiters and interviews doing that than through indeed. Stay positive, something will definitely show up

Don't give up!

Find a mentor in your chosen field ASAP and have them look over your application materials.

Also, be mindful of the gap in your resume that's happening now while you're out of work. Consider a job outside of your field for now to show potential employers that you're a hard worker.

You won’t get any useful answers until you tell us two things:

How old are you?
What field are looking for work in?

How old are you? I know a lot of people don't want to hire someone into a new field that is old af with work experience into an entry level job because they think you'll pressure them into paying you more. Generally younger age professionals who are new get paid substantially less. Also the fact BR is turning into/already is Detroit so you might wanna move out.
