In before IB Chinaman posts on this subject.
The film industry dried up overnight and now its coming back again with a vengeance. Still missing the indy movies though.

Many other states began offering equal or better incentives to the Hollywood Progressives.

Louisiana should work to brand itself as "Hollywood South". The perception alone could have an impact on bringing more tax dollars to the state.

They should do a season of Survivor in North BR.

They would have trouble finding contestants.

This is already a thing and it references Georgia

Louisiana changed their tax credit to make it far less of a giveaway, so the movies stopped coming and went to Georgia instead which had a more lucrative incentive.
Then, last year, Louisiana tweeked its credit program again, and has started getting more movies again.
You just don't hear about it as much on the news because it's become so commonplace that it's not really newsworthy any more.

I know one is being filmed in Manchac right now.
Do you know what movie it is? I passed by this morning and the boat launch and Middendorf's were packed with film crews.

I am all for giving tax credits for deserving productions, but the way the tax credits are treated like cash credits and then goods and services sold at inflated prices that don’t have sense a reality just to get a cut at the tax credits. Where the state is essentially paying for a majority of the production.
I believe Lee Zurik did a piece a few years ago on someone that was getting credits for a fake Saintsations show.
I say if you take that big of a chunk of state dollars or tax credits, you should essentially sign off on giving Louisiana a silent share of the production. That way Louisiana can then use the money from its dividends in films in a fund to fund other productions. That way it can be more of a self generated fund instead of a taxpayer pool.

I followed this issue closely for over 10 yrs. Last year I had a short email conversation with a staunch opponent to the incentives, thanking her for the facts and perspective she provided in her book. Vicki Mayer is a professor from Tulane who makes some valid points. Here's her book. It's free to download.
Almost Hollywood, Nearly New Orleans
I'm still a fan of the incentives and even more so now they've been capped/tweaked.
So, being pretty aware on the entire issue from both sides, KB's 3 sentences are a great synopsis.

It’s still doing pretty well, but it seems like they moved from filming in the city proper to the suburbs. I’ve seen quite a few movies recently that were filmed entirely, or in part, in places like St. Bernard.

The Jay and Silent Bob sequel is filming in New Orleans. This probably isn't it though.

St Charles Avenue in front of the park has production trucks almost every day.

Please explain how not receiving tax dollars translates to 'paying for the production'?
