they cannot find enough crew to service the industry right now .... I have had four offers just this month.
very busy as is Georgia (i work there a good bit as well)
the state cleaned up the credit system ... now there won't be any tentpoles filming because of the way the incentives are structured, but plenty of small/medium films and TV

i think you are right. Georgia is the new hot spot.
Well some Hollywood types are now calling for the film industry to boycott Georgia and move elsewhere because the politician they wanted to win the Governor's race (Stacey Abrams) didn't win.
Ron Perlman, Alyssa Milano and others call for boycott of Georgia
The producers will still tell these actors to shut up and dance if the GA money is right though.

Being "Hollywood of the South" isn't helping our political situation. Yall's isn't great either but I think you were already fricked.

I remember Robert Day, owner of R.W. Day (owns apt. complexes like South Gate and many others), was trying to build a huge production studio off of Millerville.
If I’m not mistaken they actually went as far as building some of the buildings, but I think they lost a grant or something along those lines and the whole project basically just stopped and is now virtually forgotten.

They’ll never boycott Georgia. Georgia, specifically Atlanta, is the epicenter of African American culture in the country and where a vast majority of black entertainers work and reside.

Georgia is not a new hot spot .... been busy there for almost 7 years. It doesn't have the restrictions on actor/producer salary that La. does hence all of the giant Marvel movies. Jumanji 2 and Bad Boys 3 are both in production.
Stacey Abrams is asking the industry to keep coming and there is too much infrastructure and corporate involvement for the studios to leave. Now if an anti gay bill passes that will be an issue. This will not be.
most of my crew is local when working in Georgia and at any given time i will have 100+ on the payroll including a ton of Republican carpenters, so it's a big mix of people who have careers and families to feed

Good luck, I hope Ga. works out well for everyone because La. can't afford to give away 200 million dollars in taxes a year and get back 25 cents on the dollar.

It might be busier than ever right now. An insane amount of things are shooting or are in pre-production.

All I know is that I used to see those yellow signs all over the northshore several years ago, but now they’re as rare as hens teeth.

10 tv series are shooting in the state along with a slew of features. It's as busy as it can possibly be. I have hired additional staff to keep pace with all the film work. First time since 2015 I have more FTE in Louisiana than GA.

I wish the industry would get pissed at Louisiana and leave for good. Bunch of asshats.

I googled to see what role Jindal or Edwards had in the Louisiana movie industry and I came across this article that pretty much explains the whole situation.
LINK
I didn't understand why the state wouldn't provide whatever incentives needed to keep the movie industry boom going. There were businesses that had to shut down when Jindal approved the cap on tax incentives. Jindal is the worse governor this state had in modern times.

yeh all the local asshats supporting their families, spending money locally, buying houses, paying payroll taxes etc. What jerks

Most people working on those movies aren’t actually from Louisiana.

you don't know what you are talking about.
on a 30 million dollar movie about 80% of the crew is local is my guess .. the producers, director, DP and Designer are generally distant hires. As are most of their seconds. And they are spending thousands a dollars a week on hotels, food, rental cars, entertainment etc.
Do you think productions are paying people to travel, get der diem and housing to be a carpenter or a grip?

People in Louisiana had businesses that centered around the movie industry. Read the article I posted. And even if most of the people working on the movies are not from Louisiana, they are still in Louisiana... Spending money. Building relationships, etc.
