I've had USAA for decades and have sung their praises many times. Their claims adjusters (auto and home) are amongst the best to deal with, if not the best.

I would gladly pay a few dollars more than their competitors for their coverage and customer service, but amazingly they are still cheaper.

I will say they are not AS good as they once were, but still great.

Naturally, they are trying not to get sued by Morgan and Morgan. If they frustrate you at any point, you are more likely to call a billboard attorney.

Depends what you value. SF is likely going to give you the best rate hands down. However, when you need to make a claim (roof wise), they are going to do everything they can to not cover replacing it. If it’s valid, USAA will cover it

We used to live in the Houston area so this is probably relative to Texas specifically, but my neighbor owned a roofing business and he said USAA is among the worst to deal with during a claim, from their perspective.

I have a friend going thru this in DFW. His house was struck by lightning. It went through the roof and hit his wife and dog in the kitchen. It ruined just about every piece of electronics in his house. If it had a circuit board in it, it was likely fried. Appliances, TVs, even the smoke detectors were shot. USAA has been trying to pay about half price for the things that need to be replaced, and constantly requiring additional quotes from contractors or installers. It's been over a year and it still isn't settled.

Really, it's a friend of mine. She had some burns and randomly had these red rings around one arm for a few weeks. The dog was fine. Asleep in his bed when my friend got home and found his wife on the floor in the kitchen. The last thing she remembered before him waking her up was telling the dog everything would be fine during the storm

USAA flat out refuses to write new home policies in South Louisiana. So they are basically worthless for home insurance.

LA Citizens here.

We had a toilet overflow upstairs that completely destroyed the living room ceiling and damaged the floors in the living room. USAA was fantastic to work with and very accommodating. Gave us zero hassles. We’d never filed a claim before (auto or home) and our claim rep basically walked us through all the way up to paying the last invoice for the repairs.

Just know that State Farm will likely not write you a new policy ever if you cancel and decide you want to go back with them.

What kind of retarded business model is that?

My wife has been in past years pestering me about how high State Farm is. (30 year customer)
She gets at work and all the women gossip about the prices they pay etc.
I never would switch. Well now all those ppl pay more than we do.
Not saying is all USAa but beware.
Now if you are a constant switcher - go for it.
I’m the only one around without a fence on my pool- I’m grandfathered in. I have a diving board. Same reason. Anyhow, there are pros and cons always with cheaper price

It's been like that for a while now, maybe since Katrina with all the money they lost in claims. There's also a named storm deductible that didn't previously exist that is 3 to 5% of your home's value.

I had to sue State Farm for damage sustained in Ida. I had 80K plus in damages and they paid me 14K and took the deductible, leaving me with damage and no roof

All insurance companies suck.

You are almost like me. I just switched to USAA again. Went from $3800 to $2000. USAA is a good company. I’ve had them in the past. I switch around as needed. I’m shopping around yearly for the best rates. I’d make the switch if I were you. I did.

This isn’t true. I know a bunch of people who just got coverage with them in South Louisiana. Maybe you live too close to the coast? No idea?

They are the reason I found myself sitting in a lawyers office for the first time in my life. They were a nightmare after Laura. We did not go through with suing them because we finally got someone’s attention there and made some progress. In the end, we were very unsatisfied and it took a full year of fighting to wrap up our claim.

They were not better than everyone else (although they had been up to that point). We stayed with them only b/c no one else can offer the very low deductible I have with them and at least our eyes are open. A pick your poison kind of thing. We no longer think we are in the best hands and will be taken care of.

I just got a quote from USAA that would save me over $2000 a year versus what I’m spending with State Farm.
USAA>SF. In fact, USAA would be worth over $2000 a year more than what you're spending with State Farm. But you don't know that until you see each dealing with claims. From what I've seen, USAA is solid. State Farm is a total PITA.
