USAA Home Owners Insurance

I just got a quote from USAA that would save me over $2000 a year versus what I’m spending with State Farm.
Has anyone used USAA in Louisiana and had experience with their claims process?

I have never filed a claim with them but I had them for Homeowners for a few years. After about year 3 their rates were significantly higher than the competition. But the first few years they were very competitive.

Not in LA but we had a massive tree fall on our house back in the Spring. Was gearing up for them to screw us somehow. They couldn’t have been better. Really glad we switched to them.

I did. They paid out just find, but the adjuster was lazy. I had to do all of the leg work and constantly follow up and make calls. But, eventually everything was taken care of. They are certainly not any worse than State Farm. For $2000/year, I would say definitely make the switch.

We used to live in the Houston area so this is probably relative to Texas specifically, but my neighbor owned a roofing business and he said USAA is among the worst to deal with during a claim, from their perspective. He said USAA, and I think State Farm, tried to deny, delay, litigate, and generally jerked the customer around worse than anyone else.
USAA won't offer me coverage here in St. Tammany, but when we were in Houston they were actually 2x to 3x the price of the rest of the competition which surprised me. I use them for car insurance though and they are significantly cheaper than anyone else I have looked at.

I was a 15 yr state farm customer until Laura and Delta had me fighting for 4 months only to get them to pay for half of a roof. Got USAA after hearing how wonderfully they treated some folks around here and after the experience I had when a USAA customer crashed into me and how well USAA treated me. Haven't had a home owners claim but have had 2 auto claims this year
but they've been awesome on the auto stuff.

I have USAA and about 5 years ago in April, I had a big hailstorm that damaged a bunch of shingles. They sent an independent adjuster out to look and he submitted photos with a determination that there was no hail damage.
The USAA claims office called me to tell me he said there was no damage but that the photos clearly showed damage. They ordered a reinspection without me having to ask for it and the next adjuster totaled my roof. They paid.
They disputed the initial adjuster they sent out without me ever having to even argue, dispute, or take any action whatsoever. They have me for life.
Added bonus is that they are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than most other insurers.

Been using them for 15years. They've always had the best rates. I also use them for vehicles, boats, life, etc.

Switched our auto, home about a year ago. Saved almost 200.00 a month. No claims yet but did get a message about Bertha from them as a warning.

Just know that State Farm will likely not write you a new policy ever if you cancel and decide you want to go back with them.

I have them and they have saved me a bunch on the premiums. Been very easy to deal with. My parent's home was damaged during Ida and they paid very quickly. And a lot more than I thought they would.

"Hide yo daughter, hide yo wife". Put anything outside that could be blown around in the garage or secure it. Expect lots of rain etc.

Had the boy break a neighbors window playing soccer and they paid promptly. Our bundle insurance has been stable and even when we added the boy to vehicle policy, the rate was competitive.

They are very good.
My parents and sisters all use them. My dad gets incredible service honestly.

Was with them for 17 years, then the auto/home bundle rates started going up...and up...and up. Left and went to Auto Owners for the bundle. They went up, so I got a quote from USAA last month. Nope. Not even with the safe driver thing where they monitor your driving. Now, their auto was a bit cheaper, but that damn homeowners more than killed it. Still where I am.

Ask any lawyer about State Farm and they'll tell you all you need to know about them as an insurer.
