We did do this, but gas is very hard to come by right now in LP. 8 cans are now nearly empty. And I don't want to use too much gas driving around fruitlessly in my car in case I need to get to Lafayette, which we may be doing tomorrow.

8 *cans* in less than 48 hours? Jesus dude.. you forget to turn off your grow lights or something?

I’ll be honest, I didn’t really prepare and got lucky that we didn’t get it at my house that bad, but I could’ve definitely made it 72 hours. I was prepared to stay in my camper and run my generator, the only problem would’ve been food but I could’ve lit a fire and cooked over an open flame if it got to that point.
I WILL be prepared for next time to the point that I can take off work a few days, hook up my camper, and leave the state.

People guzzling gas running their whole houses

A 5 gallon tank lasts me over 24 hours, just run fridge, window ac, fan, small tv, couple lights

Right, but you're not an idiot.

Also, all the people who stayed cuz they had generators...

This is one of the reasons they want you to leave because supply chains get fricked up and theres this huge additional demand for gasoline from people running generators.

I was up near Bham today. Talked to a guy who was heading to LA tomorrow to help some relatives. They need tarps and gas. I didn't want to come off as a dick, but I so wanted to ask him if they weren't aware that a major hurricane was forecasted for LA, many days ago. I mean, don't most people think "Hey, a big arse storm is coming. What things will I may need that will be in short supply if I get my house tore up?"

I'm saying that restrictions certainly don't ease tensions. I think that's very fair.

I know OP is an accomplished CPA in the Nola area. I would guess he’s solidly middle to upper middle class. He said the comments were on Facebook, so I would assume most of his Facebook friends are also in that demographic, many also in the Nola area. I know most of the posters from this board are also in that demographic, and know the prevailing opinion towards welfare recipients of those posters. 2+2=4 and shite.

I'd be just fine if had a gas range instead of this electric one. My career has me working 5AM to 6AM at this stage of the hurricane. When I get home its too dark to see to cook outside on the grill. I can go 3 or 4 days without eating but my wife gets grumpy. Also need a propane coffee maker, I'd be set.

I could live out of my deep freezers for prob 8-12 months. Not to mention I have chickens, a home made incubator (could hatch out chickens for a lifetime), large garden, fruit trees, canned produce, goats for milk, cheese, and god forbid meat. I know how to fish and hunt my arse off every fall and winter.

If it were not for this site, we would have been caught in the rush to stock up. We got all our extra food, water and gas last Thursday morning. We’re now sitting prepared for at least a week after.

Thankful for this site and not reliant on the local news.

Most People don’t have grills. Heck, most people only have electric stoves. With no power, they can’t cook.

You think it’s bad now, just wait until these kids grow up and have to deal with this themselves. The 14-year-old girl was having a hissy fit because she couldn’t get on her TickTock.

On the flip side, The liberal in her absolutely hates when I point out that “you can’t find a feminist during a natural disaster.”

Only 72 hours?

Snow storms leave parts of the SEC closed for a week, and country folks make do.

I generally keep enough to go 5 days full run with Gen and supplies.

Can stretch to 10-12 days easy enough if needed.

14-16 being conservative.

Hell people... get a plastic blow up pool from Wal mart and air up and fill up inside garage and then close door before you leave. You'll have 400 gallons of water there alone to come back to... assuming house makes it.
