LSU AD Verge Ausberry Talks Greg Sankey, SEC Legal Battle & LSU-Ole Miss Security

LSU Athletic Director Verge Ausberry addressed several major topics this week ahead of Saturday’s showdown against Ole Miss in Oxford.
Ausberry discussed the rivalry with Ole Miss and the security plans surrounding the game, his relationship with SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, LSU’s involvement in the recent legal battle with the conference, and the College Sports Act.
Here’s what Ausberry had to say:
On the LSU-Ole Miss game:
“It’s been a great rivalry, LSU and Ole Miss. This is going to be another great rivalry. This is the first time that LSU and Ole Miss have been ranked in the top 10 since 1962.
I talked to the AD, Keith Carter, there. I like their security plan they have in place. We discussed things. We’re going to be the adults in the room and make sure that the game takes place on the field.
“It’ll be a great game, great atmosphere; GameDay will be there. I mean, this is what we really want, and this is what we want this game to be about.”
On his relationship with the SEC and Greg Sankey:
“Greg and I have a great relationship. Greg and I have known each other for a very long time. We have great communication.”
On LSU’s role in the previous legal battle with the SEC:
“We support our coaches, we support our athletic department and all of our student-athletes. You know, we didn’t push it. We just looked at it and said, ‘Look, can this work or not?’ And that’s what it is.
“But we’re going to be in line with the SEC and the NCAA. We always follow those rules, and that’s what we’re going to be at LSU.”
On the College Sports Act:
“We support it. We came out in support of the College Sports Act, and we’re going to go through the process and see where it ends up.”
