They are of course all blaming the government, FEMA sucks, etc.
Gonna guess it’s a lot of the same people that ridicule welfare recipients for relying on the government. Funny how that works.

I agree with the 72 hour rule. Depends on whether you have a generator though.
People are flooding into Slidell right now to get gas, food, and other supplies but it’s starting to run out which really sucks.

Why would you guess that?

Ya know, though, I actually have a lot more sympathy for those who couldn’t afford preparations.
It’s the people who had every opportunity to go to the grocery store or get in their car and leave town, who are now freaking out about food or electricity, that I have to chuckle at.
My friend.. love her to death.. but she was saying at like 9:30pm in the middle of the storm Sunday that she was going to leave because she lost power 40 minutes prior. I was like “if you leave in the middle of a hurricane you had every chance to leave for prior, I will kill you if the hurricane doesn’t”

Not much prepping you can do for ice to last 72 hours. I bought 180 lbs. in 3 ice chests and it’s just watery slush now.
We can’t all have Yetis.

And what were they doing for the 3-4 days they had to prepare for a disaster?
Nothing. That’s where the f’ed up.

Coleman has insulated coolers that will keep ice for 4-5 days if you keep them full and in the shade. $70 for a 120qt at Walmart. They also have knock off rotomolded yetis for $150 for the 50ish qt.

Hell, I’m by Houston and I was getting preparations ready Thursday just in case.

My Coleman 60qt kept ice in it over the 4th of July weekend in Arizona. Like you said, keep it in the shade and minimize how much you open it (i.e. grab multiple beers at once).

That's just wrong. I kept enough for me and another guy, my son and his, for a long camping trip. Also, mine is colorless.
And for those that have a chest freezer, get several gallon size containers of drinking water, pour a few ounces out, and put them in your freezer. Once they freeze, screw the lid back on. It will keep your other foods frozen for longer, and you can take one out for drinking water. Ice doesn't have to come in 10-20 lb bags, and the large chunks melt much more slowly and last much longer.

72 hours? I'm prepared at any given moment for 2 weeks.

I mean, it doubles as drinking water....
Although if I was planning on drinking my way through a disaster, liquor is easier to transport and doesn't always have to be cold to be enjoyed.

Here in the FL panhandle, we treated it as indoor camping. Just have to ensure we enough water and batteries.

Dad empathy for you. Good advice from Box, Packer and Rob here.
I would also add salt to ice chest holding drinks that you use during the day, preferably rock salt if you that. Really helps stretch the life span of bags of ice or frozen water bottles, jugs.

People are useless nowadays
Easily half of my time the past 2 days has been occupied fielding questions for and finding shite for family that didn't do jack fricking squat to prepare.
And of course they all want to come pile in my home which I'm not even back in yet.
