A 37-year-old teacher was released from a Kansas jail after posting bail following his arrest at a city meeting where zoning changes for a proposed data center project were passed.

Lux Claridge, an Emporia High School physics teacher, was arrested for interference with law enforcement after clapping during the meeting.

Commissioners warned those in attendance against disruptive behavior, including clapping, snapping or rude comments.

Lux Claridge and several others clapped in support of speakers opposing the Flint Hills Digital Campus data center.

Unfortunately, there are some pro-data center people on tigerdroppings who probably would support this arrest.

I'm anti big data, but
quote:

Commissioners warned those in attendance against disruptive behavior

Seems pretty cut and dry, regardless of the topic being discussed.

Would think if anything this is more of a rallying cry to the community to make sure to speak out against these large data center companies corrupting the local politicians

Yeah, the previous thread was a lot more based than this one.

Like I'm pretty sure my reply about how there are some pro-data center cucks who would support this guy's arrest had something like 6 upvotes and 1 downvote. Rather than the current ratio of that comment, which is 1 upvote and 6 downvotes.

Also, there wasn't some commenter who claimed to be anti-data, yet defended this guy's arrest for clapping.

Unfortunately there are some gullible people who have fallen for China's campaign to handicap the United States in the Ai race.

I've never heard the name Lux before, and IDK if that's his real name or a nickname.

In any case, the article describes Lux as a man, not a woman.

I’ve not followed the whole data-center controversy that closely. But I have to wonder, considering AI is supposed to be the most important industry of the next century plus, and (1) China supposedly is making great strides in this area and (2) the US is their only real competitor in this realm, how much of the anti-data center rhetoric here in the US is fuel and funded by the CCP?

How much of the fears about data centers is being drummed up by propaganda coming from China in order to retard the US? One has to wonder.

Not all data centers are good.

Not all data centers are bad.

Breaking the rules and ending up getting arrested is just stupid.

If you read the article, there's more than enough reason to cheerlead this frickers removal even more:

quote:

Lux Claridge’s wife, Jessica Danford, was present at the meeting when her husband was removed. “Seeing them carried out like that was a lot to handle,” Danford said
quote:

Friend Caleb Rankin said the arrest came as a shock. “Out of all the people that I knew, them getting arrested, I thought someone used a different name or something,” Rankin said.

frick this guy.

It's actually quite the opposite. US data centers outnumber the Chinese 10 to 1. The relative performance of frontier models has little to nothing to do with the total numbers of data centers built.

What is actually happening is that extremely well funded tech ventures are using politics for personal gain, fricking over regular people, and dressing it up as needing to beat the Chinese.

It looks like he was arrested because he refused to get up and walk out of the meeting. He made the cops carry him out for whatever reason? He wasn’t arrested for clapping.

Yup. Big tech milking the suckers from the ignorant population for everything they can and many the civilians are just taking it and asking for more.
