I don’t have a problem with this as long as it was communicated during the hiring process. Not going to lose a good candidate over a week long vacation

If I’m the boss, it’s going to be an unpaid vacation, and that would be made clear in the interview.

Brah last 3 employers i tell them I have vacation scheduled in the first month. They just let me start a month later than what they thought I was gonna start. Free month vacation before you start.

I make sure our HR asks about any planned PTO during the process. As long as it isn't crazy or in direct conflict with something we need them for, I'm fine with it. I allow -40 for any employee as long as they get back to 0 by the end of the year.

We had someone do this recently. Told us in the interview about a planned trip with his family.

No problem.

Now the second week long trip he planned and took two months later…bold move.

We've had quite a few new hires in the past few months and all of them had vacations scheduled with their former employer. They all requested off and still took their vacations. One guy was here for two weeks and took a week vacation. Our boss wasn't too thrilled about it but didn't want to deny them.

If it's mentioned in the interview, then it must be honored.

Don't like it, don't hire them.

I did this before except I requested to my new employer if I could start my job in 2 weeks because I had accrued 2 weeks of vacation at my old job and wanted to still take a vacation since once starting I wouldn’t have any vacation time accrued for a year.

He had no issue with it

I did this when I started my previous job. We had had a week-long cruise scheduled right at the time of my hiring. I brought it up during my interview and my future manager didn't have a problem w/it. Just be forthright.

The OP has a stick up his arse.

Planned vacations that your boss knew about them before hiring them is reasonable.

I have done this and allowed this, I see no problem with it other than your boss not wanting to do it.

If you have one booked and tickets are bought?

You ask as a part of the hire. If they hire you? Take it. They tell you GTFO well you decide what’s more important.

I wonder if the people who post about life/work balance are the same ones complaining about the price of crawfish or a caniac. I’m thinking yes.

I always told a new employer I had three different vacations planned before getting hired. Made it sort of a condition of getting hired.

Not necessarily

If the vacation was disclosed during the hiring process and I really wanted to hire the person.

The prices for both crawfish and Cane's are stupid for the value you get. I can afford to eat Cane's for lunch and crawfish for dinner every day of my life if I wanted to; I still think they are terrible values for their current prices, so I don't

I had one planned, was recruited by another firm, I disclosed it in the hiring process...No issues (previous firm made every excuse to roll us over the coals.).

Most places won’t let you take vacation for the first 6 months.

I don't know who you work for, but in my 40 year accounting career I have had exactly -0- employers that didn't let you take vacay during the first 6 months.

What's the OT say about this?
Bold move, Cotton, and it looks like it paid off.

If I were going to do that, I'd make sure the new boss approved before my starting date was set, and the new co-workers knew that was the plan on my first day.
