I used Spirit a few times years ago. I really didn’t have any issues.

When it’s fine it fine, but your margin for error is zero and your likelihood of drama is considerably higher than the non-budget carriers.

It’s the greyhound of the sky.

This, although I think Frontier is better.

Took Frontier for a short trip to Denver this past weekend. Spent the extra $60 for a 2nd/3rd row seat and just brought a backpack. Doing the same thing to Vegas in two weeks, for the flight out at least.

American cancelled my flight last week through DFW 6 hours prior to departure time. Apparently AA canceled/delayed hundreds of flights at DFW last weekend. Spirit and JetBlue have been having problems too. Flying is a shite show right now.

Flying is always a shite show, it is just a question of the reason du jour.

Oversold flights, undersold flights, fuel costs, weather, delays causing missed connections, crews timing out and no available crews to replace them, etc.

If anything happens with your Spirit flight you’re boned. On one of the big airlines there’s plenty of options.

Not right now. For example, there's like one Southwest flight a day Dallas to st Louis that is direct, and it's over $400 round trip. 18 months ago there was 5 or 6 and they were probably half the current price.

Honestly, I've never had a bad experience with Spirit. I just flew them to LAX two weeks ago for the 5th time because their flights are always nonstop, and the times are usually good.

I pay extra for one of the big seats up front, and I'm still not paying any more than I would for an economy seat on a bigger airline, while avoiding the riffraff.

Besides, there's plenty of trashy people and problems on other carriers these days (looking at you American).

People have put lipstick on a pig but Southwest is still a shite airline.

Spirit is fine if you know how to play the system.

Rule 1: always have a backup ticket on southwest for 2-3 hours later and don’t cancel it until takeoff.

American hasn’t been any better

Had a friend in Costa Rica this past week and American canceled 500 flights, including their flight home to New Orleans. They had to fly home that day because their 72 hour Covid test was going to expire if not. Ended up having to get on their phones and book a United flight to Los Angeles (the only available flight to the US) just to get back into the country before their Covid test expired.

Sounds like a bunch of stress.

I booked a round trip through a travel site and didn’t realize the return leg was Spirit until it was too late to change. The first leg went okay, but they canceled my connecting flight so I was stranded with an overnight layover. This wouldn’t have been a huge deal, but I had work the day I was stranded. Thankfully, I was stranded with my work laptop, so I was able to get some stuff done remotely.

Then, they delayed that next flight leg 4 different times. Finally, I ponied up some extra dough and just bought a one-way Southwest flight home. Spirit responded to my problems with a $50 voucher towards my next trip with Spirit…how generous

Spirit is a great Airline to fly if you don’t care when you get to your destination or when you get home

I wonder what happened to all the Braniff planes?
After the company crashed, their planes were parked in every open space, on the grass, beside runways etc at DFW airport.

I mean other airlines have had the same issue, it isn't just a Spirit issue. American Airlines cancelled hundreds of flights the other day as well

But that doesn't fit the agenda here
