Spirit Airlines bedlam, day five: Airline cancels 45% of Thursday flights

Spirit Airlines, which has canceled more than 1,300 flights since Sunday as it grapples with a series of issues including tech outages and staffing shortages, on Wednesday said cancellations should ease in the days to come as it reboots its operation.

You couldn’t pay me to fly spirit airlines. The airline is shitty and the people using the airline are trashy as hell.

Accident waiting to happen. Can you imagine the corners they are cutting to stay a float?

They're approaching WOW territory right now. If you don't remember, WOW Airlines (low cost carrier in Iceland) declared bankruptcy out of nowhere and immediately ceased operations- leaving thousands stranded in the tiny Reyjkavik airport.

If you're booked with them, be prepared for the possibility that Spirit may do the same.

I saw another article stating the same, but at the end it said United and Southwest have canceled more. Odd smear campaign against a well known shitty airline

I thought they had the newest fleet of planes though compared to all of the other airlines. This was some time back though and could have changed. Not sure.

The difference with Spirit and United/Southwest is that they have multiple flights per day that connect with different hubs/focus cities. If you get cancelled on United, they'll just put you on the next one (within 12 hours usually) or reroute you to a different hub. Spirit has a more 'destination-driven' business model and generally has one flight per day (sometimes more, sometimes fewer). They're not equipped for cancellations like this

Hard to feel too sorry for people dumb enough to fly to places like puerto rico or st. croix using spirit.

I like Sporit for short hops where I don't need luggage. Pay $40 for the first class seat and don't sit in the back with the people of Walmart types.

Though last flight the two ladies next to me took out a huge container of Buffalo wings and were passing them out. They were good too. Just very odd.

$94 round-trip to Orlando.

I mean United and Delta charge like Spirit now too. But for sure. Spirit attracts the people who usually take the bus.

I'm usually hot on most flights. I flew Spirit recently, and it was definitely coldest flight I had ever been on.

Was coming here to post this. If anything happens with your Spirit flight you’re boned. On one of the big airlines there’s plenty of options.

good context. thank you.

I’ve heard multiple reasons why these flights are being cancelled? Does anyone know why?

You pay for a service of flying, not having your flight canceled.

I used Spirit a few times years ago. I really didn’t have any issues.
