So they are replacing engines with machining debris left in the engine with new engines with machining debris in the engine. And they don't have a fix?

I am not the brightest person but it seems like the fix is pretty simple.

Most believe it is more than machining debris. This is not Toyota's first rodeo with full engine replacement. They have had some very bad new engine launches in the past, but they rarely launch new engines for a lot of reasons I won't take the time to type out here that largely boil down to 1 part luck and one part starting out with a generally cheaper, smaller lineup in the US going back 40 years. People tend to forget their past issues because it's been so long, and once they fixed all the launch issues, they didn't mess with the engines for a decade or more.

This new family will be the same way. It is a very conservative design, in fact it is overly conservative in that neither FE nor performance is class-leading in any way. They will un-F it in another year or two and try to build it essentially without change for the next 10-15 years.

My explanation is from an idiots point of view. I didn’t make the claim but only repeated what I’ve seen from these guys. And what you said lines up with what they said. And what they said is their “theory” as to what “should” remedy the issue. The point of my post is to call BS on the “machining debris” lie. Because that’s what it is. Toyota is trying to cover their asses. They claim the engines that were failing from “machine debris” were all coming from the same shop when that was a lie. It’s a design flaw. They also claim that the tolerances were too tight and that’s also a lie because the tolerances of the 5.7 V8 were much tighter than the 3.5, again im regurgitating what I’ve seen from truck guys who know more than me. And they showed the spec sheets with the tolerances of both engines.

For what it’s worth I have only driven Toyota in my lifetime and it’s extremely disappointing to me that they are still trying to pass the “machining debris” lie off.

People that complain about BMW reliability haven't owned a BMW in the past 10-15 years.

That straight-six and 4.4 8 are both solid engines.

Insane EPA standards have ruined cars and are partially to blame for the insanely high prices. The government ruins everything!

Bro in law has 4 Tundras for his business and all 4 had problems. As in they needed to change out the whole engine in each of them. What are the odds???????

Tried to tell y'all, buy a Toyota. Even the way they do recalls is better than all the other companies.

Yes, that actually happened recently. The OT claimed that Toyota was so damn good they even did recalls better, they owned it, they fixed it....until they didn't.

Quality really went to hell after the pandemic. I am afraid to buy something newer for that reason

All of the new vehicles built today are fricking turds. The EPA is fricking killing the gasoline/diesel engine with their stupid regs. Vehicle pricing continues to climb, and the reliability keeps swinging the other way.

I don't think the engines are the issue with most German cars.

Are car generations of the pre-Covid era going to become highly valued in time?

Can you get a new 5.7 crate engine from them? Fir thr longterm it would be cheaper to do an engine swap on most new vehicles now then keep these horrible turbo pos.

Just one more reason I’m glad I bought a 2020 Tundra. V8 proven reliability, hope she runs forever.

It’s not the engines. It’s the over engineered technology. My wife had a BMW and engine was great, a some stupid sensor or fuse or something would break and cost an arm and a leg once it was out of warranty.
