So now they'll all want to work lunch shifts and not get scheduled for the busy Fri and Sat night shifts.

that supposed to be a lot?

To bring bread/water and take orders…yea, that’s a lot.

To own/manage said restaurant? No, that’s not a lot.

Not all risk is the same. Idk what the restaurant costs are but these dudes are worth over a billion combined and just signed a $900M deal in 2021. Not all risk takers are the same. Matt and Trey might as well play monopoly with real money.

How much value is really in taking an order, bringing food, and/or serving a drink?

To me? Depends on the cost of the meal but for my family of 4, let’s say it’s a moderate priced place…That’s. 100 dollar tab so I would give them a 20 for considerably less than an hours work. Sounds like 30 an hour might be a pay cut.

Employees who were hired through those contracts were then recently called into a meeting where they were told they could either sign the new $30 an hour contracts but not take tips, or quit.

The outlet says they spoke to employees who asked to remain anonymous who said the new contracts would provide more stability at times when the restaurant wasn't full but would represent a decrease in total wages if the Casa Bonita was packed with paying customers leaving tips.

They're complaining because they have to pay taxes on that 30/hr.

And I’ll bet almost all of them vote Democrats who are all about higher taxes.

I presume this is a troll, but if not, you’re an awful American.

They took a risk making that cartoon 20 something years ago. It paid off.

Yea that's a tough sell for a good bartender.

That’s just one aspect of their job. There’s a reason for the saying “good service is hard to come by”. It will draw in new customers as well as maintain regulars. I don’t think this approach is how you get the best servers/bartenders to work for you.

Paying someone the same for serving a table of 2 vs a party of 10 plus is some commie gobbledegook.

Oh you mean the owners who are each worth hundreds of millions of dollars from making a crude cartoon? Gee I feel so sorry for them taking all that risk.

Seems like a personal attack instead of whether they proposed a reasonable solution.

Looked it up, and $30/hr is about the median range in Colorado. Is that unfair to pay order takers the state median wage?

Making the median wage is actually really good for a job you can get as a 21 year old with no training.

It is essentially one step up from fast food. And pays well enough to support a family. Most young people don't have that earning power.

Not a troll at all.

I'm an awful American because I don't believe that servers should circumvent US tax laws by not claiming cash tips as income? frick off loser.

This is the best point made on this thread.

A fixed wage rate has this effect. I wonder if the owners will adjust the hourly wage based on peak hours. Being a waiter is much more challenging when the place is packed.

Agreed

They should probably think about an incentive system. It is tricky because the normal problem is servers have no incentive to work lunch shifts. The restaurant loses money supplementing them to $30/hour then. For the high volume night shifts you have the opposite situation.

There's a balance that's hard to strike

30 an hour is not below value at a Mexican restaurant

Now a 5 star restaurant where servers provide excellent service and know every detail about every cocktail, entree, wine selection etc and can recommend good items based on your palate preferences, 30 an hour is below value. It’s not below value at a Mexican restaurant or a Texas Roadhouse though

I don’t see how it’s a reasonable solution really. They made it so good service is paid the same as average or less than average service. That’s good for the employees who suck at their jobs I guess. But it punishes those who don’t suck at their jobs and might actually try to be better than the bare minimum.
