Do you understand what the word IF means?

Finally some feel good news. All of this arguing abt what a fixed wage means to workers means zilch to me. I'm team consumer, and I'm sick of subsidizing someone else's payroll.
The vomit-inducing argument that tipping is mandatory for good service is demeaning and places customer servers on the same level as circus animals.
You should do a good job because you accepted a position that requires it. Aside from having dignity, the threat of being fired should be enough.

I bet if you gave them a choice, the would choose the guaranteed pay!!!!

Key is “on a good night”. Not all nights are busy and tip levels flutuate.

I could see where the loss of cash tips could be an adjustment. In a high volume restaurant cash tips nightly can be a lot of immediate money.

Can we take a moment to see how this is good for the patrons?

Why would they be happy about a pay cut?
Posted on 7/1/23 at 4:18 pm to Rouge
There is a simple way for them to solve this. Stop working there.

I was in San Diego and they are getting paid $15/hr + tips and still couldn’t get enough wait staff to work.
Might have something to do with the fact that the cost of housing in San Diego is 123% higher than the national average and $15+tips still isn’t shite with that context.

Because now the owners of the restaurant are taking on 100% of the risk.
If a guaranteed $30/hr is not enough to motivate one to work hard, then that is not the type of person they want to employ.
I mean if the restaurante goes out of business the servers would get stiffed.

Faulty premise. No one is just waiting on a single 10 top
If you have a manager or hostess that’s worth a shite, this is highly possible. One server is not going to have a 10, a 4, a 4, and a 2 while another one has a 2, a 2, and a 4.

I wouldn't give tips to a restaurant. I pay enough for the food. The restaurant doesn't fill my cups or check on my food, the server does. I would only give tips to server

Ok. I managed a restaurant for four years. A ten top is the equivalent of two tables. If you say a server two tables over three hours, they are going to quit.

I’m not assigning anything. I simply happen to know what the pay scale is in this area, it’s kind of important to your job when you’re a Controller or CFO in a hospital.

Easily a top 5 post for the afternoon session.
