my original account is tied to my paws email. I tried to log in a long time ago and I could not remember or reset my password. What a shame.

I loved that you could add songs to your profile and I used myspace a lot to look up bands and listen to some of their songs to see if I liked them. Before spotify and youtube, that's kinda what you had to do if you didn't want to download shite before listening.

Ever since about 2022, MySpace had a glitch where you could find the website on google searches, but the page would never load when you clicked on it.

I guess they've now fixed the glitch and you can actually now open the webpage.

Not that anybody is going to care about MySpace being restored.

I first learned about this MySpace thing about 4-6 months ago, when I had way too much time on hands and decided to waste 15 minutes of my life researching whether MySpace even existed anymore.

They briefly had a niche like that, but there were 2 different data errors (in 2016 and 2019 IIRC) where MySpace lost all previous data. So, in 2016, MySpace lost all the embarrassing stuff you posted on MySpace when you were an 11 year old in 2006. Then, in 2019, they lost everything that had been posted in 2016-2019.

They probably lost almost all of their remaining members after the 2019 data loss if not after the 2016 data loss. But, to top it all off, the whole website stopped working in 2022, and it didn't start working again until yesterday or whenever the article the OP posted was written.

How I found out about the 9/11 attacks. Got out of the shower and walked by the computer and saw a message flashing from a friend saying "turn on the TV. A plane hit the WTC."

As for social media apps... the first one to ditch the algorithm and go back to a default chronological timeline that shows me more posts from accounts I follow vs promoted or suggested would get me to dump all the rest.

Slowing the speed with which people can post stupidity or attention seeking into the world isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

This is exactly what seems to be driving people away based on just what everyone says and also seeing views diminish on pages --like my shop's-- that have tens of thousands of followers.

Instagram and Facebook algorithms are so geared to promote paid content that people just don't scroll to find stuff they actually follow.

Or, when they do, it's about an event that's already happened because it got pushed days down the pecking order.

Eh, I don't think so. They lost all data in 2016, and then lost all data again in 2019, and then the whole website went offline from 2022 until a few days ago.

And the fact that most people don't even know about those data losses or MySpace being offline for 4 years (because they had stopped using MySpace long before that) just further proves my point.

At this point, I don't know who they'd be able to attract to the platform, other than people who just got released from prison after something like 20 years behind bars and don't even realize that MySpace lost almost all of its members during their incarceration. And that's not really the clientale that a social media network wants to have.

There's just no way this is going to work. There isn't anything a "new" social media platform can roll out that hasn't alreayd been done.

I think that's kinda the point. Social media these days is nothing but bots, influencers and rage bait.

And the ills of that stuff is becoming well known and common knowledge.

Will it be successful? I don't know, certainly nothing like FB, but I think there's a decent sized market for a "back to the roots" social media platform.
