re: Turkey Season

Killed a real nice one Tuesday in St. Tammany. Gobbled like crazy on the roost but he shut up pretty quickly after fly down. I wasn't sure which way he walked so I just stayed put. He came in silent at 10 and I got to test out the new Mossberg .410. Aside from him I haven't heard any gobbling since the Sunday of youth opener.

Took my daughter out Saturday and Sunday for youth here in St Tammany. Saturday was a bust but Sunday there was lots of gobbling happening. Around 9 a lone hen came strolling by. She saw the decoy and immediately ran over to it and challenged it. She puffed up, stuck her fan and wings out and even slapped the decoy once or twice, super cool to see. Wish I knew how to post a video. She's begging to come with me on the opener so I think I have myself a little turkey hunter.

Really like my David Halloran calls. I have a cherry slate and a crystal mistress. I use the slate first thing for some soft tree yelps and clucks and use the crystal as the morning progresses. They seem to really like that crystal pot. I want to say he has a call thats crystal on top and if you flip it you can access the slate sound board for softer stuff.

My "dad" left before I was born and tried to convince my mom to get rid of me. My mom did a pretty good job raising me that I can remember. She married my step dad when I was 6 and he taught me to fish and duck hunt, taught me carpentry and baseball and basically everything I needed to be a good man. I was never really mad at my real dad because I guess in was in denial about it all. Now that I have 3 young daughters it does make me angry that he was too chicken sh!t to raise me and deny me of all love and memories I give to my children. Bio dad came back into my life in my late teen years mostly to tell me about how great he was doing. He's apologized a few times but it never really landed for me.

I could watch a whole season of that.
I was working at Worley and they love sending engineering work to India. Gotta love that slave labor. Anyways, I would have to correspond with these people regularly and no matter how much I tried I couldn't understand any of them. My level of stress, anxiety and anger at the end of the day damn near gave me an aneurism. Couldnt leave that place fast enough.
I have the Kubota 48" with the Kawasaki. It's an absolute tank of a machine. No issues, easy to service, zero percent financing and an incredible insurance deal if something ever happens to it while its financed. I don't know if they all come with the ride comfort seat, but I highly recommend getting it if not. I got mine from Evergreen tractor in Covington and they are great to deal with in my experience. I cant think of any real cons other than that sob is LOUD as most of them are. Highly satisfied here. Oh, I wish I had gotten the 54" deck maybe even the 60.
