Myspace may be poised for a comeback. Chris and Tim Vanderhook, the brothers who purchased the platform from News Corp via their company Specific Media (now part of Viant Technology), have confirmed that they’re actively planning to relaunch the iconic social network.

Myspace in 2026: The once-dominant social network is still online, but its owners say a major relaunch is in the works

While there’s no timeline for the new attempt and no detail on what the site would look like, Chris DeWolfe, one of the original co-founders, suggests that there’s room for something that isn’t algorithm-driven.

“I do think the algorithms have a lot to do with the addictive nature of social media,” DeWolfe told People. “Everything’s programmed to you and what you’re going to like, with the complete and total notion of increasing the amount of minutes that you’re going to spend on a particular social media site,” he added.

Whether any of this means a significant revival or expansion of features like the beloved, customizable “Top 8,” which still exists in limited form on the current site, remains to be seen.

There's just no way this is going to work. There isn't anything a "new" social media platform can roll out that hasn't alreayd been done.

Pictures? Instagram
Dating? Hundreds of popular apps
Music? Take your pic
Quick news/stories? Twitter
Little bit of all? Facebook

And who is this even designed for? Younger kids won't care and the 40 year olds that will be nostalgic over it will lose interest in 10 minutes.

i was under the impression that myspace itself found a niche market as a less popular music sharing platform for original songs directly from the artists but could be wrong

I'd be interested in a Social Media that was like twitter pre-trump. Where it was mostly comedians and sports reporters. the app now is designed to make you hate people and enrage you. It used to be pure entertainment.

FYI: I am not blaming trump, just his emergence into politics broke the opposition and ruined twitter.

I was in a band and DJed during the MySpace heyday. It actually worked much better to get music heard and promote shows than anything which came after.

Although that's mainly because each subsequent platform continually made their algorithms more sophisticated in steering users to paid content.

Instagram, for example, worked in the beginning but so much became sponsored content that many people stopped looking for actual regular bands and stuff happening in their cities.

All I know is my page had a great song included so let’s do the damn thing.

The fact these MySpace dudes couldn’t file some form of lawsuit proving Facebook copied their platform is their biggest failure.
