Sun coming up at almost 9 is insane
Keep in mind, it's not like a switch turning on and off.
There is civil twilight that can last 30 minutes, where most outdoor activities are possible without artificial light.
Then another 60 minutes or more (before or after) of nautical twilight, where the horizon is still faintly visible.
And at higher latitudes, twilights are longer.
It's not going to be pitch black outside at 8:59am, or even at 8:00am.

The school I worked at, first bus stop was 5:55, school opens at 7:15. That’s not happening with Day light saving time in the winter.
If this passes, schools will be pushing their start times back.

I can't speak to everywhere, but first light in Baton Rouge is generally about 30 minutes before sunrise.

Why do the time zone lines not follow state lines and some of them zig and zag through states? I’ve always wondered that never figured it out.
It allows regions to be better aligned to large population centers. You don't want people changing their clocks with every commute. Easy examples are northwest Indiana tied to Chicago, Great Plains areas tied to Front Range cities, and El Paso tied more to New Mexico than to Texas.

I'm pretty sure Arizona has permanent standard time and has kept it successfully since the 60s.
Some of it. The Navajo lands, which is a quarter of the state, follow federal law.

Where does it get dark at 4:30?

Which is exactly why this is a bad idea and why it didn’t work in the 70’s when it was tried before.

The working man shouldn't concern themselves with light or darkness in the mornings.

Not where I live. They stagger the school hours because of traffic.

It's all about your proximity to the time zone. In eastern Alabama, yes, in the dead of winter it will start getting dark at 4:30. Sucks. Being in a hilly or mountainous area vs being on flatland can play a part as well. I've been in western Utah in the summer where it was pretty flat with mountains to the east and pretty flat to the west and it stayed damn light until almost 10:00 at night.
Bring on the Daylight Saving year round! Who gives a damn if its dark in the morning. Most upstanding citizens are going to work or at work and it just doesn't matter.

Keep in mind that this is the peak and only for about a 3-4 week period around January. Well worth it not to be dark at 4:30 PM
And getting up to go deer hunting would be easier...

They tried permanent daylight savings in the 70s and it was wildly unpopular because people realized that their kids would waiting for busses in the dark for most of the year.
Before the bus stopped in front of every damn house for sure.

Exactly, someone needs to post sunset in winter during standard time.
Here you go.

I support no time change, but they should have made standard time permanent.
This. Make it Standard time. Get rid of time changes. Match the rest of the world.
What's states like Arizona gonna do, they don't observe DST anyway. So they are going to be stuck 2 hours behind the rest of the country?
And to answer a previous question....in general, its light 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset. So just because the sun sets at 5:00pm during the winter means its dark by 5:30ish.
This is a bad idea for schools. No way kids up North are going to be sitting in the freezing cold at dark waiting on a bus.

Highly productive people wake up early and need sunlight. Only losers don't need sun until 9.

It is funny to see all of the Standard Time year round folks.
Are you just miserable shits for 37 weeks a year? Because that is how long the federal government mandates daylight savings.
And the trend is only to strip away more time away from the standard clocks.

Highly productive people can work in both daylight and the dark.
Who the frick can only be productive in one of those?
I dont know a single job that can't be done both.
