Some kids will be in 2nd period and it will still be dark The circadian rhythm would be absolutely fricked for kids

If they pass this it won’t make it 5 years

I think school hours should be rolled back an hour. I think grade school and middle school kids walking to school or waiting at a bus stop in the dark is a bad idea.
Surely they already are. Some of those times say 8:30, 9:00, 8:00, etc. Even if you subtract an hour, that’s 7:30, 8:00, 7:00, etc.

School usually starts around those times. You usually have to be at the bus stop an hour before school actually starts. So they’re probably at the bus stop in the dark at 6:30, 7:00, 6:00, etc. already anyway.

Unpopular but i like how it gets dark early in late fall and winter. Adds to the seasonal lore.

They tried permanent daylight savings in the 70s and it was wildly unpopular because people realized that their kids would waiting for busses in the dark for most of the year. I have a feeling this will only last a year or two until cities up against the western edges of the time zones like Atlanta, Cleveland/Columbus, Louisville, Amarillo, Lubbock, Salt Lake, and all along the west coast will start screaming about that again.

You are correct. The population is ignorant. They do not understand the extra sun in the evening is paid by less sun in the morning. When they finally realize it, they will be demanding a return to the compromise system that we have today that actually works pretty damn well. Of all the shite we need to worry about I do not understand how this ended up on politician's radar.

We should just keep the current system. That being said, if they absolutely have to choose one over the other, DST is superior.

Those of us living on the eastern edge of time ones have been dealing with this forever. It's time the western-edge cities get their share of shite winter light. Pick-up time would be dark in my location whether we had CST or CDT. At least now I get some light in the evening.

sounds like you are the ignorant one. Proponents of this want more daylight in the evening. They accept the later sunrise. its not difficult to understand.

states have been trying to opt out of the "time change" for decades. This is low hanging fruit for a Congress that isn't willing to address bigger issues. Again, not that hard to figure out.

Had Google AI make this map. Anyone feel free to fact check it.

Edit: Map was inaccurate, AI disappoints me -- here's accurate data in spreadsheet format.

Current ST vs. permanent DST

Current DST vs. permanent ST (for those people who complain about their circadian rhythms at the start of DST every year. Those late sunrises at the beginning of DST don't last that long.

No shot that is correct. I believe that would be if standard time is observed year round

ETA; see you changed it to standard time

And I don’t think that is right. I think the earliest a New Orleans sunset would be is 5pm under standard time . The entire map is off by 1 hour

Yet it doesn't get done. Can you think of any reason why? Just look at this thread. Yes, it seems people would prefer one system but they are pretty equally split between DST and ST.

Which is why we have the perfectly fine system we have today.

I predict it's going to stay that way and I can assure you I'm not the ignorant one.

Hit the street and ask 10 randoms what they know about this. 50% probably can't read a face clock.

AI resorts to the peak winter since you ask it for the earliest so it is talking about a few weeks in January

It’s still wrong. There would never be a 4pm sunset in New Orleans or a 3:30 sunset in Boston

We currently do standard time in the winter and never see those sunset times …..

standard time would suck arse in the summer down south. You want it to be well into the 90s at 7am?

probably so, the upside and downside are too regional. The fix is let states decide but as it as now states can only choose the switch or standard time

I find the standard time year round argument terrible. Mostly because it would be terrible for everyone along i-20 and south. Also because the circadian rhythm arguement is lost on me since nothing about the american schedule is based on a decent circadian rhythm

The key in American parenting life is to find a job that pays well and is flexible with your time if you are full arse in the seat 8-5, you are screwed no matter what time we are on.
