Want to do something about childhood mental illness?
Allow them an extra hour of sun exposure after school, adults will benefit as well

It's true. Suicides and poor mental health all peak in the winter

Nowhere in Louisiana is it ever dark at 4:30.

And it's actually the opposite of what the OP is implying. Staying on DST in the winter would mean a 6:30pm dark, not 4:30pm.

I think school hours should be rolled back an hour. I think grade school and middle school kids walking to school or waiting at a bus stop in the dark is a bad idea.

They already are. Look at the map and subtract an hour. Most schools start around that time, it’s reasonable to conclude the kids were waiting for the bus before that time.

And by the way, our grade school/elementary makes us be at the stop with the kid, I doubt we are the only ones. That’s just when they actually go to school, when it’s cold here they don’t go to school. Which is when it would be darkest.

Who are these 117 dickbutts that voted against it? An investigation is needed to see how much Big Clock money they are taking.

I support no time change, but they should have made standard time permanent.

Sunrise time should weigh more than sunset.

Less sun exposure in the morning fricks with your circadian rhythm. Morning light is what helps “set the clock”.

The midpoint of sleep was the most affected sleep parameter, showing significant associations with sunlight exposure across all timeframes, particularly in the morning

Just one study on sun exposure and sleep correlations

We have a better shot of the strait of hormuz opening than this bill passing.

Wish one side would commit to sending this item through on its own.

Humans went through 99.9% of natural selection receiving several hours of sun exposure daily. The children need more sunlight. Changing school start times wont work because many parents have selected employment based on school start times.

Choose one and stick with it. If they do DST this year and never change again then great.

Yeah, if you keep standard instead of DST.

Sun coming up at almost 9 is insane. Early morning sun is much better for you

Give me early light and darkness in the second half of the 2:30 SEC game of the week

Big victory for parents of children under 12/13. Kids shouldn't be in the house from 05:00 until they go to sleep.

Is it really so burdensome to let southern states, who finally get nice weather right around the time change keep savings time and let the Yankees do whatever they want?

and if you keep DST. many kids go to school in the dark during standard time. The morning light is important but it doesn't take as much as needed for overall health and vitamin d production

I do.

Also this has been tried.

People who want permanent DST are silly. You don’t know what you want. You need the adults to make the decisions that have the most benefit, which is standard time year round.
