My son (13) and I got drawn for a permit to hike Half Dome later this year. Looks like I’m going back to my favorite park, Yosemite.
raises hand

I don’t do as much as I like nor as much as a lot of folks here, but I try to make at least one trip a year to hunt something that we don’t have a season for here in MS.

Typically elk and pheasant, this year I’m mixing in a trip to Alberta for ducks/geese.

I have a time slot next week. I did see where ticket prices are pretty high, but it don’t think you have to use visa, that’s just their preferred partner.

It appears the NPS has put a hold on the Chisos mtn lodge renovation in Big Bend. We stayed there a month ago and it’s showing its age, but I’ve stayed in worse/more worn NPS lodges and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. The convenience of staying in Chisos basin far outweighs any downside of the lodge itself, and if you’re doing Big Bend right you should really only be in your room to sleep.

Glad you like it!

My mod is to double the recipe but half the amount of cream cheese while adding about 1 1/2 times the peanut butter.

That’s sounds delicious. I’ll have to give that a shot sometime.

I’ve got four eye bolts (2 front/2back) screwed into the ceiling joists and two cam buckle straps as a cradle that snug my kayak right up to the ceiling.

That’s my method as well.

Seaplane to Ft. Jefferson (Dry Tortugas)
I saw it for $5.80 here today, central Mississippi.

Va Buckeye lives/lived in Naples. He hasn’t posted since September of last year though. Hope the fella is doing alright, I enjoyed his contributions to the travel board.

Picked up some ribs, pulled pork, grits, mac and cheese from a local bbq joint and cooked an apple pie.

Thank you. I’d previously seen that site, and it does give more names than other sites, but I couldn’t find any defensive players or linemen there.

Football rosters by year

Is there a database somewhere with previous year’s football rosters? I’m specifically looking for the 1951 team, but am coming up empty with online searches.

Congaree looks a lot like MS and LA. We went during the fireflies and that was a cool experience. I enjoyed Shenandoah and would like to go back during the fall.

Wrapping up a 10 day, 3,000 mile roadtrip from Vicksburg>Big Bend>Guadalupe Mountains>Carlsbad Caverns>White Sands>El Paso>San Antonio>New Orleans>Vicksburg tomorrow. Had some great food, hiked some great hikes, stayed in some unique places (and some dumps), and met some cool people. One guy in particular that stands out I met while hiking the natural entrance into Carlsbad Caverns. He was a Canadian (from Montreal) that is trying to visit all of the US national parks and had visited 6 so far on this trip with 3 more to go. Talking with him on the way down just reinforced what we all in this thread already know, we’ve got some great parks and should not take that for granted.

Stopped in tonight on the way back from a road trip out west. Pizza was fantastic and the staff was very friendly. You’ve got a great place.

Shenandoah

We also visited in July on a long road trip that included NRG, Shenandoah, Flight 93, Cuyahoga valley, and Indiana dunes. I enjoyed Shenandoah and would like to go back during the fall. Unless you’re doing some of the longer hikes, you can do it in a day.
I was in the area and went back in 2020. I would stop by if I were nearby, but likely wouldn’t go just for that. You could go see mammoth cave while up there, tour some distilleries (if that’s your thing), etc…. That part of Kentucky is beautiful.
