A coalition of parents attempting to block a state law that would require that the Ten Commandments be displayed in public school classrooms by next year have won a legal battle in federal court.
U.S. District Judge John deGravelles issued an order Tuesday granting the plaintiffs' request for a preliminary injunction, which means the state can't begin its plan to promote and create rules surrounding the law as soon as Friday while the litigation plays out.

The move prompted a coalition of parents — Jewish, Christian, Unitarian Universalist and nonreligious — to sue the state in federal court. They argued that the law "substantially interferes with and burdens" their First Amendment right to raise their children with whatever religious doctrine they want.
The American Civil Liberties Union, the American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana, Americans United for Separation of Church and State and the Freedom from Religion Foundation have supported the suit.

John W. deGravelles is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana. On March 13, 2014, President Barack Obama nominated deGravelles to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana.[1] The United States Senate confirmed deGravelles on July 22, 2014, with a vote of 100-0.

Notable cases
On August 31, 2014, deGravelles partially blocked enforcement of Louisiana's new abortion law which took effect on September 1. The measure requires those performing abortions to have admitting privileges at a hospital within thirty miles of the abortion facility.
In October 2015, deGravelles issued a temporary restraining order that blocked the administration of then Governor Bobby Jindal from defunding Planned Parenthood within the state. Jindal spokesman Mike Reed said the state would appeal deGravelles' ruling.

Complete waste of taxpayer money.

Assuming this is just some weird attempt to get a Ten Commandments case in front of what’s perceived to be a sympathetic Supreme Court. Snowballs chance in hell, of course.

To the surprise of no one, including Landry.
It was predetermined outcome given the long long long legal precedent, so Landry can use it in a future run.

Sounds like Gov Landry and Omar need to have a talk with this judge.

Make weed more illegal.
Pander to base by trying to put 10 commandments in public school even though you know it won't be allowed.
Bring a Temu Tiger into Tiger Stadium no one wanted.
LA governor is really the best.

Real, long-term answers to most economic issues facing the middle class will mean billionaire shareholders reducing profit margins.
Easier to get people riled up about culture wars.

Nominated by Obama so no surprise there.
