Hope cali sticks to their guns and don't back track on this. It should blow up quite nicely in their face. Some of these mandates are so f'd up that it makes you wonder if they are actively trying to bring down the govt/economy/usa. With the way politics are, I think they care more about everyone else other than the American citizens.

To me the wording needs clarification. Can't the companies just buy used diesel trucks, rather than "new" electric trucks??

The problem is that something like 60pct of all consumer goods imported from come through LA or Long Beach or SFO Bay. This is going to be an economic nightmare for all of use when the available stock of TV's and microwaves is completely f***ed because there are no electric trucks to haul them out of ports. Of course prices will go up and inflation will gain steam becuase, if you can't get a TV, you offer more for a tv.

90% are in SeaCans transported out of port by rail. They’ll just build SeaCan terminals out of state and go from there. Same with Bulk chemicals / liquids. Specialty Haul and Reefer requirements will likely remain exempt via permit.

Nah you won’t be able to use it in state.
They already have something similar with age of vehicle. So if you are a smaller outfit you prob just don’t do businesses in Cali because you can’t afford to replace your entire fleet.

These battery powered semi’s take enormous amounts of energy to charge. During a house committee last week a business owner said to replace his fleet he would need almost the entire electric grid of his town just to charge 30 trucks.

Right now it's only for NEW trucks. Emissions are going to actually rise because of this because of shippers keeping aging trucks on the road longer and longer.

They must define 'zero emissions' as occurring only while operating.. certainly not while charging or the manufacture.

I don't know why some people outright refuse to believe/can't understand this.
All value has energy. Energy can be neither created nor destroyed. You aren't becoming free of emissions. Ever.
Even if in 2150 all vehicles are electric, it is because we frontloaded the emissions to create the infrastructure to be electric. The emissions still happened in proportion to the future vehicle usage.
The oil in the ground isn't a free resource. It's the result of suffering of an entire apex species.
Nothing is free. Anything that exists is the result of some transfer of energy. The value we put it on is subjective, but the tangible result will always have a balance.

I've worked for two transportation software companies over the last 15 years. There are so many customizations we've had to do over the years just to meet the insane demands that California places on businesses there.
This might be the end of California ports. Their percentage of import traffic has dropped by 15-25% since COVID. Companies are diversifying their import operations to avoid supply chain issues. Add in this electric truck BS and the possibility of a longshoremen strike.....
