"Literally Impossible": Trucking Companies Brace For California's 2024 Electric Mandate

“We need to know all of these things in order to plan,” Nelson Sibrian—owner of Sibrian Trucking based in Wilmington, California—told The Epoch Times. “If we don’t know the actual range, it makes it impossible to schedule, and they can’t give me a straight answer on how long [trucks] will take to charge.”
Charging is problematic on several fronts, as trucks require special charging stations, and with limited infrastructure at and near ports, experts say the frequent need to recharge, and the wait times expected with more trucks than charging ports, add to the time and cost of operation.
Traditionally, maintenance accounts for the majority of expenditures with diesel trucks, and the lack of information regarding similar requirements for electric vehicles presents unique challenges for logistics companies, according to experts. Some say they’ve heard costs could be tenfold for electric as compared to diesel trucks.

ETA: Musk is going to make a fortune off California's stupidity. His company makes one of the only EV trucks that actually moves freight.

There's no such thing as a zero emissions vehicle. The emissions might be less, but they still exist, just transferred to another phase of the vehicle creation/operation.

I really, really hope California continues to go all in on this and shows the rest of the country how truly stupid these mandates are in this day in age (and with current electric infrastructure). Maybe then some common sense will reign for a change.
The state that literally can't provide consistent electricity to its residents is requiring all of this electric vehicle shite.....in six months from now. This will be a disaster of epic proportions, and I'm here for it. I just hope the other idiots throughout the country that think mandates like this are a good idea are paying attention and will actually learn from it (spoiler alert: they won't).

Well the problem is most of the garbage shipped here from China and Asia currently flows through CA ports like Long Beach.
I guess you could ship it to Seattle or expand rail use but you are adding to shipping costs massively.
If you have to go through the Panama Canal to FL, TX or GA you’ve added a ton of time and fuel costs to your shipping.
Now the strange part here is that this would make US production seem more attractive if we had the right president in the White House, but I guess it remains to be seen how it will play out?
Possibly just electric semis running to the NV border where the freight is handed off to ICE semis for cross country shipping?

So, now that that's cleared up. We've got 12-22 years to move shipping to other states.

The mandate only applies to vehicles sold in CA. There is no prohibition against buying trucks in another state that I can tell. Looks like all the trucks used by CA trucking firms could be purchased out of state?
