In order to get to FL and TX ports from the far east, ships would have to traverse the Panama Canal. Guess who controls that?

This is why it is so important to get the new container port down in Chalmette up and running as soon as possible.

Carriers are dying to avoid California at all costs moving forward.

Our rail system is actually very strong and can handle the volume. Rather than going cross country to Chicago, containers could go by rail from NOLA.

Would create a lot of jobs and distribution centers in this part of the country.

why do i have a disgusting feeling that despite Commiefornia making these ridiculous over the top climate change regulations, it’s not just them and their moronic voters who will suffer, but the increase in costs will be spread to the rest of us?

No.

Cali typically handles more goods from APAC. To get the Gulf Coast ports you’re going through Panama adding weeks to the transit.

Air Freight is likely to see an uptick

am dreaming of the day Chevron closes HQ along with their stations in CA, and moves to a southern state

I can’t believe they haven’t done it sooner given all the bullshite climate change lawsuits that have been waged against it and other O&G companies in CA state courts.

CVX is prepping to leave. They separated all Cali oil fields into a joint venture and moved as many people out of California. Their assets are ready to divest when California is no longer profitable.

We completely moved our inbound from CA to Savannah. Our costs have actually decreased, plus if we need to get to the facility it's right here.

I truly hope more companies wake up and realize that they can adapt to a few extra days on the water in exchange for less bullshite.

Stop delivering to Cali

Stop making cars for Cali which require different standards than the rest of the states.

Stop making products for Cali which require excessive labeling standards different than the rest of the states.

If Cali wants it, Cali should make it themselves.

Logistics companies are scrambling to meet California’s upcoming Jan. 1, 2024 mandate that all new trucks purchased for servicing ports

Also known as buying every diesel truck they can get the capex for and setting up out of state entities for garaging.

not to mention that the new locks are basically useless right now because they’ve had to reduce the draft to 44 feet because Gatun Lake is low. Sure they can still fit longer and wider ships but they can only be partially loaded.

The Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway was started by Arthur Stilwell in 1900 as a shortcut for Pacific trade and the US midwest.
Its' Pacific port was to be Topolobampo, Sinaloa, Mexico which would have cut about 400 miles off from a trip from Kansas City to Los Angeles. That railway failed because of financial difficulties because trade with the Orient was not that large at the time. Eventually the ATSF (Santa Fe) bought the railroad. Stilwell later went on to start the Kansas City Southern Railroad, which just recently merged with the Canadian Pacific Railroad. Port Aurthur Texas is named for him.

Topolobampo, Sinaloa can still be used as a major trade port today and thus bypassing the Panama Canal, Los Angeles Basin, and California.

BFD. it takes 4 weeks for our ships from Shanghai to get to Charleston, and the wait to get through customs and unloaded to our warehouse is anywhere from 1-7 days.
What good is it to send it to San Francisco and it take 1 week to get to the port, but the cargo waits another 3-4 weeks to get through the port/customs?
