FYI, the majority of those who survive are the ones who take pills to try and OD or improperly slit their wrists. For the pills they either don't take enough, are saved medically by something like Narcan, or a combination of both.

The wrist is self-explanatory. They all cut superficially.

More serious attempts, like with a gun or actually cutting your wrist, have about a 10% survival rate

To me the problem with the plea in this case is that even if you assume everything her attorney claims is true there's a massive problem. To hear supporters of her talk you keep hearing the husband should have known and not left her alone. The medical professionals should have known and protected the children. The mother should have known and done something! And then they will tell you that she tried to tell them multiple times that she had these terrible thoughts. Well there's a problem here. That means that at least multiple times she had enough sense in her head to recognize her own self as a threat to the children. I don't know about the rest of you parents but if I woke up tomorrow morning genuinely contemplating killing my children it would take me milliseconds to make phone calls to get my children separated from me. Because they are the priority. Hayden Panettiere actually did this because as fricked up as she was she had the good sense to protect her child. So frick this bitch
