I agree. Chemistry with a person is instantaneous, in my opinion. You either have it or you don't. I was downright school girl giddy when my husband asked me out lol! FWIW, I still feel this way today.

Then you size up whether they fit with your values, habits, general lifestyle, etc. through the course of dating. I knew very quickly with my husband. Married 22 years and together 25.

Antoine’s you only go for the history and setting

We actually ate there last December, and the food was fantastic. Much better than I remember it being, and the service was great, as well. The building and history are so cool that it's still worth going. Plus, my favorite hotel in the area is the Royal Orleans, so Antoine's and Brennan's are obvious dinner spots.

They picked the wrong Zach

Agreed! Zach Top is going places. He's an old-school type country singer and smiles throughout his entire concert. Not a big Zach Bryan fan at all, other than a very few songs.

I currently have one unopened bottle. Should I get it insured? So sad because it really is the best sauce.

I don't think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving. Its probably my favorite holiday.

Same and same! It's the definition of peaceful and cozy. Kids are out of school, and you get to catch up with friends and relatives that you may not see all year. No pressure to live up to expectations. Just cooking up a ton of food and hanging with your people.

And the exciting part of Christmas is Advent - waiting - for Jesus to be born. To me the waiting is part of the excitement and Thanksgiving is the tailgate before the big game lol. People need to sloooooowwww their lives down.

Many of us do not want to "extend...the levy of said Tax at the rate of 11.1mills....for an additional 10 years"

This is the part that really gets me. I suppose if we decide the library has too much in savings then we could vote to reallocate that money, but to "renew the library millage" but then scrape some off for undisclosed purposes for another decade is some wildly jacked up accounting. The water is too muddy between the parish and the city.

The library tax is about to expire. Zero reason they can't design a budget outlining what they actually need to survive, and we can vote on that.

Does it have to be Michelin starred?

Definitely not. I'm looking for quintessential French food, preferably in some kind of interesting setting. Not a fan of modern, minimalist interiors. Thank you for the suggestions! Several of these are on my short list.

I would do a lot of things for a dinner at The French Laundry.

 It's way up there on my list, as well.

ETA... Does anyone have Paris recs?

This theft from the library millage (and others) is mostly for the benefit of the city of BR because they can no longer steal directly from St George. They threw in some parish wide stuff so that it will pass and give talking points to convince people to vote for it.

Everyone needs to take note that a vote of "yes" is for TEN years of the library being funded this way. So we're still "funding the library" but also going to skim 2.8-mills annually to the General Fund. Again, until 2035.

And I'm sure right after this passes the good old tax assessor is going to determine all of our homes are worth more money, so our property taxes can go up next year to help the library, COA, etc. recoup this loss.

move money from the large balances held by the library and BREC into the general fund so the city can provide basic services - including the police

The same city police who do not patrol outside of the city limits (aka St. George).

There is a massive budget shortfall with St George taking a large chunk.

One huge sticking point with residents of St. George was that the City of BR was using money from the St. George area to pay for services not provided outside of the city limits.

quote:

This just moves money around - not increase your taxes.

It's taking approved money from the EBR library system (parish-wide) to pay for city services. This seems like a round about way of just doing what the City of BR was doing all along.

My vote is no unless someone can clarify that this is not what they're doing. If the library has too much money, the renewal should be at a lower millage and have a dedicated tax to whatever it is that they need money for.

I completely agree. Unfortunately, the advent of the internet rendered some stars meaningless in that these restaurants are now Tik Tok famous and unnecessarily difficult to reserve. I can imagine locals get somewhat annoyed when their favorites are starred.

Private foundations and churches would be much better positioned to determine real need. Government needs to get out of the charity business.

What's interesting is that here in Baton Rouge alone, we have tons of resources for people to have food, and it has nothing to do with SNAP. The BR Food Bank is a huge warehouse that is stocked to the ceiling with food. A few churches in my area also run food banks a few days a week where people can grab a few items. St. Vincent de Paul obviously runs a soup kitchen and shelters. All of our local grocery stores (and many schools) do special collections around the holidays to create meal baskets for those in need.

Local agencies are better suited to determine true needs and to address them.

Then why even tell the story?

I thought about that, but I would be willing to bet quite a lot that my suspicions are correct. Considering I'm in Louisiana, where roughly 18% of the dang population is on SNAP, that's a pretty good wager. And although modern liberal pundits tell me that my instincts are incorrect, my nearly half a century on earth has proven that I can, in fact, judge a book by its cover.

And please don't forget that SNAP and WIC are not the same program. Any parent receiving SNAP will also likely get WIC for their children birth to age 5. The USDA estimates around 40% of U.S. infants are on WIC. Mind blowing.

Food stamp buyers aren't going to buy the higher cuts of meat.

That's not true at all, and it's part of the rampant fraud baked into the system. I was at Costco the other day grabbing steaks, and this couple was browsing next to me. They were very tatted up and downright greasy, but not in a rock star way. More like they hadn't showered in a week. The lady grabbed FIVE packages of prime filets. These were no less than $70 per pack.

Obviously I have zero proof that they were using ebt, but there were definite alarms in my head. I've never personally witnessed a person buying that much steak while also looking like they should probably be buying soap instead. Maybe they were drug dealers lol. It just seemed like an expensive way to buy filets. I would have just bought whole tenderloins if I needed that much.

That's a sweet woman, and I bet they have a happy marriage. If more women were like her, we wouldn't have such high divorce rates.

Her name is Jesi Rae Aviles, and she has become an "influencer" by posting cooking demonstrations aimed at making budget meals for families. She has 5 kids, so I guess she's trying to teach others how to make every day meals.

I follow a ton of cooking channels on Instagram, and she pops up regularly as a suggestion. Seems like a very sweet lady.

The truth is, Sandy needed a new apartment anyway. She was commuting 3 hours each day via bus to her job as a.....sales clerk in the mall. She then used her savings to buy a car just to get to this job when she finally rented another apartment not on the bus route.

Sandy is making lots of silly decisions, so a person buying a renovated condo in her previous building has no bearing on her list of poor choices.
Yeah, beating me up would not be a flex. You'd get more fight out of a goldendoodle

Brother I've been in more fights than I can remember and not one time was I ever arrested.

First, I'm a woman. Second, if a woman slaps you and you break her jaw and then keep wailing on her until someone pulls you off, I sincerely hope you are arrested. Men are infinitely stronger than we are. No need to go full on pit bull.

If I ever tried to punch my husband, I doubt it would even slightly hurt. He would probably just laugh at me. If he punched me, he would 100% break my face.

IF you assault me - I don't care if you are a retard, cripple, or a woman I am going to do my absolute best to at minimum break your jaw and even then I'm going to keep going until someone pulls me off.

Seek mental help. Seriously. If a crippled woman slaps you this will be your reaction? Have fun in prison.

Tailgating at the house was a pain in the arse because it had to have security and catered which during tailgate hours it was expensive and hard to find both catering/security.

And prior to this our dates picked us up, we went to the house, drank whatever mixed drinks our dates fixed us (out of the expertly decorated party cups we provided lol), and then we walked to the game. After the game, we went back to the house, drank keg beer, and danced to a live band.

This happened every home game, mostly without incident, as it was self-governed. LSU decided fun was bad and turned it into a colossal pain in the butt with a bunch of bureaucratic red tape.
