She used a kitchen knife to cut her wrists and neck. She took a bunch of pills and then jumped out of her bedroom (2nd story) window. She coded in the hospital, they revived her, then she was in a coma for a while. She’s currently paralyzed from the waist down and has 24/7 one-on-one care because she’s still a high suicide risk.

is it permanent? If the fruitcake jury lets her off it would at least be some small solace that she'd never walk again.

Yes, thankfully.

Still a miscarriage of justice for killing 3 children.

Correct

If you were a juror that truly was intelligent and actually wanted to carry out your civic duty this would be an extremely hard case

She is clearly a monster. Her actions were heinous. However it truly looks like she was insane during the act

Now, personally, I don’t think that matters, personally, I would want her charged with murder. But that is not how the law works. And Not guilty by reason of insanity is a law. It’s there. It’s written . You are supposed to take out personal feelings and opine on the actual laws

And by the law she seems extremely close to meeting that law

So I think it’s extremely unfair to say if a juror votes NGRI is just a braindead moron is pretty far from the truth

The law is what should be argued is a miscarriage of justice here, not the potential juror decision of NGRI because that isn’t a crazy or outlandish decision based on the actual written law

The cuts on her wrist were superficial. One was 2 cm and the other was 3 cm. They cut through fatty tissue but stopped before hitting the artery.

Her jump was from 13' high

A forensic pathologist testified that the cut on her neck included several shallow incisions—medically known as "hesitation marks"

A urine analysis of the pills she took showed that they were within normal "therapeutic" limits. Forensic toxicologist Dr. Justin Brower and ICU medical staff determined that the medication levels in her system were not high enough to cause a fatal overdose, respiratory depression, or cardiac arrest

She coded from internal bleeding from the fall and a combination of the injuries

If you just list it as you did, then yes, it looks bad, but put it into context with the fact that she is a nurse, and it looks pretty obvious that it was not a legit suicide attempt.

She permanently paralyzed herself

I mean the effort was solid . I can’t convince myself to jump head first “from only 13 feet high” as you put it

I disagree. I think she wanted to die then and she wants to die now.

If she were serious about it, the wrist cuts done properly would have done the trick in a few minutes. She knows that as a nurse

Everything else was for show, and she jumped into the snow. Paralyzing herself seems like an unintended consequence.

Then why not plead guilty and beg for the chair or get a shiv in prison and handle it?

Instead, she is fighting to be free

Ok

See I don’t think you really are trying to be objective

She paralyzed herself- that was an accident

She coded on the hospital- well yeh but that was from internal bleeding

I mean dude she almost died and ended up paralyzed for life, that is what actually happened. . She did a really really bad job of doing it all for show if that’s truly what she was doing

She is a nurse who understands what it takes to end a life or save one. She just ended 3 after all.

Nothing she did after that was seen all the way through and was all superficial. She didn't even take enough pills to do anything. Again, cutting her wrist properly would have been more than enough.

Maybe she was just an underachiever when it came to killing herself but not her kids or maybe she did just enough to make the attempt look valid

Sadly, tons of people commit suicide by just doing one of those things properly every year. Ole Lindsay the nurse just couldn't figure it out, though.

Here is the thing

You are kinda also making the argument she was insane during this. Because if she was insane and having psychosis, I don’t exactly think she is recalling her nursing training on cutting and pharmaceutical textbooks

We can’t possibly pretend to say we know of the attempt was real or not. We can only say what happened

And what happened was she paralyzed herself for life, went into cardiac arrest and almost died, and also almost died from hyperthermic shock with a body temp of 82

She was extremely close to actually dying.

Roughly 92% of suicide attempts are failed attempts

She turned her kids around while strangling them. She was apparently insane during this but sane enough to know she didn't want to watch as she choked the air out of them?

She also took a call from her husband during it all and was able to communicate with him normally but rushed. The husband said he figured she was bathing the kids but nothing seemed unusual on the call.

I understand we want her to be insane because of how gruesome it is but it all points to planning and being conscientious enough to navigate the whole ordeal

So you are saying she was aware enough to do that but she suddenly forgot her nurse training when it was her turn to die. Got it.

I don’t know. I don’t think she’s spoken publicly about anything, so we don’t really know exactly what she’s thinking now. My guess is that her parents are in control over it all and would prefer for her to be in a hospital instead of jail. But since she’s being so closely monitored in the hospital, they must believe she’s suicidal.

Dude im not saying you are wrong. It’s extremely arguable you are correct

But just using the facts of the case, extremely grounded smart people who aren’t liberal weirdos could say she is NGRI

That doesn’t mean they like it, but using the law it’s very possible that is the truth.

92% of suicide attempts are failed attempts

Even when people are so warped on the mind they try to kill themselves, only 8% of the time are they actually successful…

So I don’t know why you think failing (although permanently injuring herself for life) is saying anything really meaningful

Also, if she is such a smart nurse who was grounded , she could have easily just poisoned the kids with kids with her pharmaceutical knowledge and been a far easier less emotional way to kill them.

The “she was a nurse she would never fail suicide” is such a bad argument for anything

She was a nurse. She just killed 3 people.

She statistically doesn't fit your 92%. She knows what it takes to both end and save a life.
