Updated impacts for metro Baton Rouge from #Laura. I'm bumping wind gusts up to the 40-60 mph range given latest trends I'm seeing this morning. #LAwx

Wobble or start of more northerly push now? If storm weakens will it slow down?

I thought that's what I was seeing...

This is about to Hurricane Michael

Hope not. There are still people here with tarps on their roofs and fighting insurance companies

Michael damage is the worst hurricane damage I've ever seen IRL. Just unbelievable the destruction. I had to go to PC for work in June and you are right, PC still looks like a shanty town in several places.

I hope to God that its not as bad as Michael.

Where are you ? I have a cousin that works for CLECO, he said they'll shut down grids that aren't considered essential, but it seems early for that.

I dont think the populated area that will be effected for Laura is going to be as close to the Gulf as it was for Micheal.

And it depends on where you are obviously. Iberville and WBR will be on the 30/60 side and eastern EBR and Livingston will be on the 20/40 side.

New plane entering #Laura is finding surface wind estimates of 130-135 mph, which would make Laura a Category 4 hurricane. LINK

Will there be anyone live-streaming this?

The last hurricane (Michael?) those people live-streaming from their car, then got trapped, they had to abandon their car, and the last video was their car floating away...

The guy in that car that got trapped is there. Jeff Pietriewski is there. Reed Timmer is there. There will be plenty of feeds. Hopefully none of them are crazy enough to try to get on the highways along the coast.

If everyone that needs to hasn't, evacuate calmly now. I am praying for everyone that it weakens.

Similar to Rita.. 35-40 sustained gusts to 50

For Baton Rouge it depends on where the outer bands set up. The models don't show it happening for the Baton Rouge area but we won't know until it makes landfall.

Thanks. Going to head home and make final preps. I don't recall widespread power outages in BR and Livingston for Rita. But with Laura, it's really hard to know. I really feel for everyone in between, that are in this path. Praying for miracle weakening when it hits.

On the Hurricane Track cam in Cameron, the road is already under water. It had a good band go through earlier. I'm not sure of the exact location, but the camera is pointed at a small Shell gas station.

I already ate all my hurricane snacks and was thinking the roads would be empty.

Dollar tree parking lot on college has about 10 power company trucks ready.
