I’m not sure direct SpaceX will drive Lafayette's growth. It’ll be everything else. Support and ancillary services. People that want to be near the action.
The airport, hospitals, UL, etc in Lafayette will bring people there.

I get that Technically Pecan Island is closer to Lafayette. I still believe it will be Lake Charles that builds and supports this facility just as much and definitely more in the construction phases of the project. LC has been building Serveral LNGs for years. LC has the labor force with transportation, lay down yards, Fabrication technology, Concrete facilities, etc.

Yeah I tend to agree. Lafayette keeps saying they will reap the benefits from Space X and they will to a certain extent but it’ll be from a population standpoint which will make Lafayette just more of a cluster. LC is quietly sitting by making moves to get the construction side of it. Like you said they have the experience from the LNG side.

Don't think many will living in Lafayette proper or even Lafayette parish
maurice down to abbeville across to kaplan/indian bayou would see the growth and thats included in Lafayette metro
But still don't believe Lafayette metro is going to pass up BR or Nola metro anytime soon

It’s 1 hour and 15 min to Lafayette from Pecan Island and 1 hour and 30 minutes to Lake Charles from Pecan Island……

Lafayette has a lot going for it especially with the university and large areas of buildable, generally higher ground land.
However, Lafayette's issue compared to other cities in LA has always been its geography. When O&G was booming that was one thing, but today Louisiana is less dependent on O&G and agriculture. We have always been, and still are a river based industrial state. BR, NO, LC, Shreveport, even Monroe and Alexandria all sit directly on waterways that supported commerce, Lafayette doesn't have this. Space X will help the region for sure, but I'm not expecting a huge population boom.
