Just for shits and gigs, been looking at land for sale around Kaplan since the announcement. Within 2 days, 90% of all the land on realtor.com is already “pending”.

I don't see it, unless they start manufacturing all of the rockets here.
Ive heard they were going to directly hire 3000 workers. It might create another 2000 jobs with the economic impact if they source a lot of stuff locally through local companies. Im sure more service industry and education/government jobs will be needed as well.
Adding another 10k people because of SpaceX will definitely have a big impact here (Lafayette's economy hasn't really grown that fast since the O&G fallout in 2014/2015) but they will be easily absorbed.

Start it near Rayne/Duson, have it traverse the Lafayette parish border and end it at HWy 90 near Acadiana Regional Airport.

Speaking of these small Louisiana towns. Was in Abbeville recently and forgot how nice their downtown square area used to be. It’s a shame what has happened to small town South Louisiana.

NAFTA killed a lot of these towns. There was a lot of food processing, textile, glass, and metal manufacturing spread out throughout that region and a big chunk of that left in the late 90's.

some of this is not really Lafayette's leadership's fault.
Shreveport and Lake Charles had strong congressional leadership for decades where Lafayette did not. Thus you have the 210 bypass in LC and the 220 bypass around Shreveport.
Lafayette has a decades old traffic management plan and a political football in the I-49 extension. Amb Caffery was supposed to be the southern leg of a loop, that was out of date before the road was even finished
The State Legislature Representation for South Lafayette was even worse (Ernie Alexander)
Most people dont realize how far Pecan Island is from Lafayette (~60 miles), how far west it is (due south of Egan/Midland) and how difficult it is to actually get there (going through a lot of lights/towns/traffic on two lane country roads
I predict the 4 lane expansion of LA91 into a major interchange at Egan will have a direct effect on growth between Lafayette and Crowley. I can see development between Lafayette and Abbeville but the majority of the residential growth being between Abbeville and Kaplan.

Unless you’re going to an episcopal school you aren’t paying $18k a year and you can send your kids to some of the area public schools. You also don’t need private security.

Abbeville’s downtown looks a lot nicer after the last mayor cleaned up the look a bit

Manufacturing will be on-site. Same thing at the Cape. This will include Starships as well as Starlink V3+ satellites.
