SpaceX may skyrocket the Lafayette area's population

quote:

Elon Musk’s SpaceX facility in Louisiana is promising to be a massive change for the Vermillion Parish area. Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois says it’s hard to overstate how transformational the project will be for the state. “Truth be told, it’s going to put Vermillion Parish at the epicenter of the next frontier,” Bourgeois emphasizes. While she understands that may sound overstated, Bourgeois says the plans are in place and moving quickly.

Perhaps more boldly, Bourgeois predicts the Lafayette MSA could become the biggest population base in the state within the next 10-15 years due to the Vermillion Parish SpaceX center. Bourgeois notes that the area was deteriorating in many ways before Elon Musk's company came sweeping in with the $100 billion investment that has been made to build the facility in the region. She says the massive undertaking will create thousands of jobs, providing a tremendous economic impact.

The Vermillion facility plans to be launching rockets into space by 2029, and Bourgeois expects construction to ramp up quickly once it begins. "This is a sea change for us. We are having a moment of momentum. This is real. These are not one-off projects, these are the most highly capitalized companies in the world choosing this state and that's not slowing down," she went on to highlight. Bourgeois also notes that there should be anywhere from 3,000-10,000 SpaceX jobs created by the construction of this facility, with other indirect jobs sure to follow.

Lel. Big talk but seriously this state lacks any redeeming qualities outside of NOLA.

Baton Rouge is only half ok because of LSU. If it didn’t have LSU it would be Jackson Mississippi.

In my short time living around that area I was surprised with how bad some of the roads were around downtown Lafayette. Like Nola sized potholes and cracks

You people who keep repeating this look stupid

SpaceX can't hire foreigners/H1B

quote:

SpaceX doesn't hire H-1B workers because U.S. military laws treat rockets like weapons.

Here is the simple breakdown:

The Law: A law called ITAR bans sharing rocket secrets with foreign nationals.

The Rule: Only U.S. citizens, green card holders, and refugees are legally allowed to see rocket technology.

The H-1B Problem: H-1B workers are legally considered foreign nationals.

Lafayette metro census area is about 500k. That is about half of BR's metro, and another 300k less than the N.O. metro. I doubt Lafayette will catch up. What it will see is population growth, job growth, reduced poverty, and improved infrastructure. (This is assuming a similar experience to the Brownsville metro.)

No. Only refugees who have been granted citizenship

Not the fake Somalian refugees who stayed here on temp visas for 16 years

Engineering dean at ULL is Egyptian. A large percentage (though still minority) of the students in the engineering school are Middle Eastern or Indian sub-continent.
