That’s the giveaway, really. This car was built to look good in a brochure. The numbers and ingredients are tantalising, but this car is not a serious player in the European theatre of war. It may be able to out-accelerate just about everything, and on a skid pan the size of Texas, where there’s nothing to hit if you overstep the mark, it can generate some extraordinary lateral G. But it’s not nice to drive.

So if you want a serious car, buy one from the continent that gave the world Shakespeare, Monet and Emerson Lake & Palmer. Europe does serious well. It does substance. It does brilliant. America does Disney. And what we have with the Z06 is Disney trying to do a hard-hitting documentary about Africa’s civil wars.

Naturally, it hasn’t really worked.

That's cool. I'll stick to my practical car that gets me from point A to B without guzzling too much gas.

You know your country doesn't produce shite when you have to lay claim to the continent to seem relevant.

It's always best when he takes a picture that doesn't show his teeth.

Nothing new, he always shits on American cars. Still the best car show on the planet, or was.

I don't necessarily agree with him, however, the Corvette has never been a model of refinement and reliability.

There have been some pretty serious QC issues with the later models that are a hallmark of GM even at the very high price point. Some of the mid 80's models are Buck Rogers disasters that aren't even very collectible now.

Make no mistake, I am a Corvette fan. But I think his bashing has some merit based on the build quality alone not necessarily the pedigree.

I'm not so sure about that.

Clarkson is a well-known hater of the USA. He's kind of a prick all around, actually, but I still love the show.

And he needs to make up his mind. On one of the last shows to air, he praised the Corvette.

Btw, the first annual Corvette Cruisin Galveston Strand/Moody Gardens is Memorial Day weekend for those interested. I don't think Jeremy will be there though.

Yeah the Corvette has that reputation in the US. I don't get why Clarkson is acting like he's on to something new.

From about 95 on the Corvette has been pretty rock-solid. The C5 especially, was bulletproof. Some Corvette owners are kinda whiny and they expect the car to ride like a Cadillac and not a sports car, but by and large,,there weren't too many cars that were as track ready as the Corvette. The new one offers a 100K warranty on the engine. That's pretty strong.

I'll agree the 95 and up are better than some years but they still have problems.

Guys not being able to bolt the detachable roof back on. The roof panels separating on the C6. Water leaks and some of the other annoying assembly problems.

Granted, Corvette owners can be very particular so that has something to do with it. But I still think the Vette suffers from some of the poor engineering and assembly that all GM products do. They seem to get the chassis and drivetrain right but the fit and finish is GM production quality in some areas.

I still would love to own one of the newer ones if I could just find a spare 75k lying around!

I really don't think so. He hates on the USA everywhere, not just on the show, and Brits in general can be haughty count when it comes to a lot of things.

A British guy once told me that they hate people from any country that is equally or more powerful than they are, and love you if you're from a country they deem to be less powerful.

Re European vs Domestic supercars
The build quality of Porsches or Ferraris are flawless?

Nyet.

These are all complex machines. They will all have issues. Zero defects is not going to happen.

Next issue.

As to aesthetics, upper-end Jaguars do it for me. I won't own one but they are goddam gorgeous.
