European Cars > American Cars

And class by class it is not fricking debatable. As an aside, I've never like Corvettes particular.

That's cool. I'll stick to my practical car that gets me from point A to B without guzzling too much gas.

With a double overdrive the Z06 is capable of 30mpg...

How so, please do tell?

The Camaro Z28 beat a Turbo S around the track so I seriously doubt your claim is true.

Besides, didn't Clarkson pick the Corvette as his car of the year? Why the sudden, harsh change of heart?

This statement proves that you have no clue what you are talking anout. The automatic 8-speed system shift- response times are on par with Porsche's PDK transmission. And the Magnetic Selective Ride Control and Performance Traction Management allow the Z51 to put up lap times as good or better than anything in its class - and many cars more than double the price.

Maybe because they are all crap? They loved the Pontiac GTO and the G8. Oh, but those were made by Australia.

A Corvette with 50,000 miles on it > any 50,000 km Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Jag, etc.

Maybe not Porsche, they're actually relatively reliable compared to some of their Euro competition.

On the last US Top Gear special Clarkson was quite fond of the Corvette ZedR1.

No doubt, as a whole, American cars can't hang. But this is not your ordinary Vette. I've always been a Porsche guy since I was a kid. Never really considered a Vette til a week or so before I bought mine. I also had a Camaro 2SS in 2010 when the new ones came out, and they are different as night and day when it comes to handling. I loved my 911 but missed the torque and raw power. I never expected the Corvette to compare favorably to the 911 til I actually put it on the track. People who rag on the Vette has obviously never driven one.

This has always been Clarkson's shtick. He loves to trump up European over American cars, which is justifiable. He's only praised American auto makers once, and that was during the special in which they drove across the American West in the Vette, Challenger, and Mustang (I think.) In the next season, however, he took the Vette around the Top Gear track and bashed the shite out of it, claiming "I don't know what I was thinking."

If you were to ask Richard Hammond his thoughts on the Vette, he would probably praise it, because loving the American way of life is his shtick.

He is also comparing a car that goes for ~$75,000 in the US to the likes of the Aston Martin Vantage, Audi R8, and the Italian supercar brands, so it's not really fair.

This is the car that will change the game for American sports cars:

$118,000 and rumor has it that it is demolishing track records everywhere. Supposed to put down hypercar times.

Yeah, because C6 Z06 Corvettes didn't have any issues with excessive valve guide wear. Nor did the C5 have issues with the roof flying off. Oh yeah, the C7 stingray is now blowing engines left and right, but that's better than Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Jag, etc.

Have you ever ridden in a C6 Z06? They get extremely hot. I can only imagine the issues that the C7 are having.
