BUY ANTIQUES or have Custom Made

You’ll be thankful when it pays for itself in 10 years and you don’t have to replace it…..ever!

Got a LaZ Boy couch about a year ago. The all of 120 lb wife , who sits on the same end of the couch , can already tell it's sunken in some now. I rarely sit on that couch.
Fatties must destroy furniture faster than a pack of dogs could.

We bought two sets of La-z-boy last year for our new house, couch, loveseat, and chair. Cost was about $10K.

They work fine, but now that we have had them a while, neither are particularly comfortable. It seems the headrest has too much material in it, and it sort of forces your head forward. I have to lay back in it to really feel comfortable, but I'm stuck with it for a few years.

That's the advantage of living where I do...a pretty short trip to Hickory, NC with a ton of US furniture manufacturers...and New Tazewell, TN to the England Corsair factory. You can specify the build on what you want, and compare build quality from different brands and models.

Assume the listed price is marked up about 4x as a general thumb rule.

Yep. Rock solid and good looking. Expensive as frick, but it will last.

Mrs Crickets is a damn VIP at Mitchell Gold and Arhaus. Will also add that their service is top notch.

Restoration Hardware.

Complete smoke and mirrors. Same with pottery barn. Their prices are in line with makers like Hickory White and Sherrill, but the quality is nowhere near on par with those guys.

I work in the furniture business. Covid really messed up the supply chain. As foreign countries shut down supply dried up. When factories ramped up production to meet demand shipping costs quadrupled (a container cost $5000 JAN 1, 2021 now costs $21,000). As ships stacked up with product got to ports they had to wait to unload since ports were already full and there are not enough truckers to ship products. Demand for truckers caused freight rates to increase. Retailers responded by raising prices and instead of stocking to sell they sold to deliver resulting in long waits for increased prices.
#1 There is no living room product made only in USA. Most if not all buy kits or parts overseas even if they assemble here.
#2 If you can wait 6 months to a year I think freight prices will level out and prices will decrease.
#3 You get what you pay for.
#4 Ashley is the #1 selling brand in the US and even their product varies in quality.
#5 Sofas do come in boxes and are assembled buy retailer so you never know. Domestic made product is shipped in plastic.

After graduation I didn't have much cash so I bought a used leather sofa at an estate sale that is built like a tank,I paid $300 for it. It has to be at least 50 years old and nothing is wrong with it .I'll look for a tag to see who built it.

we bought a new couch from a local furniture store thats been around 40ish years. We LOVE it. Paid 2400 all in, including a 5 year warranty for any stain or tear, no questions asked.

I’ll add to what deuceiswild just said.

If the cushions are not removable, bad sign. Open the cushion up, should have a zipper on the back, and look inside. Many people don’t know the difference between real leather and fake leather, i.e. leatherette, remanufactured leather, nagahide, pleather, and vinyl. Some will have a swath of the leather it was made with attached under the center seat cushion.

We just bought a new Ashley living room set about a year ago and it is holding up well. I don't let my kids bring food or drinks into the living room and I get on their arse when they go to sit or lean over the arm rests.

I had to fuss my father for going to sit on the arm rest the other day. I think the entire set was 3,000 but I will not pay high dollar for my kids to destroy.

We had two sofa/love seat sets that I had for 20 years, and replaced last year. The stuff we bought is "nice," but you can clearly tell the quality is far inferior.

Appliances used to last MUCH longer, things were just dials and replaceable parts.

How about light bulbs? Freaking LED bulbs that tout crazy amount of hours of use... I sure do seem to replace them often. I started writing the date of install on them a while back just to prove to myself. I don't even buy them anymore, have moved to halogen.

Bought new kitchen and laundry room appliances last year. Washer has been serviced twice and needs replacing. Dryer serviced once. Dishwasher serviced once.

This is bullshite for expensive new appliances.

Also pissed that it’s going to be 3 more months before we even get it.

Hell, I would have happily taken 3 months. I ordered one in April and it won't be in until end of January.
