There's no "maybe" about it. The difference between NYC metro and Upstate NY might as well be two different countries.

You are so right about PA. As a native, I can attest. Once you get over the west slope of the Alleghenies into Western PA, you might as well be in a different country. Completely different. Western PA/Pittsburgh is the Midwest, Philly/SE PA is typical northeast. Completely different attitudes and cultures.
