Can be. Follow some fairly simple rules and you can limit your exposure to calamity. Stay with your group. Do not wander down dark side streets off of bourbon bc you are trying to make a call or cannot hear in a bar. Try not to be walking around the city after 2am. between 2-4am is most dangerous. Mind your business

It's a smelly dump with average food and 1000 homeless people for every tourist.

Come armed as you'll likely be murdered by NOLAthugs.

ETA: It's really not too bad if you like the smell of urine and hot garbage.

Yeah it's horrible. The rednecks on the OT will let you know. LOL

9 million people visited the city last year it's so bad. In the last two months they have hosted a 30,000 person conference and a 25,000 concerence.
Check on hotel bookings from January thru June.
And this is just tourist stuff. Lots of other good stuff happening too

Yes it's awful. That must explain why it's a huge tourist destination nationally and abroad. Listen to Earl from Bunkie, he knows best.

While folk from Denham and such do blow things out of proportion it does occur to me how absurd it is that we have to tell tourists to stay off side streets and get back to their hotels for 2am in an American city.

That's good advice for any big city. I would say don't be stupid, but I've seen you post in every thread about NOLA, so I know it's asking too much of you.

The new thing gangs are doing is running around everywhere vaccinating people and their kids. You should probably stay clear.

Nice hotel, but you have to deal with Canal St. You're dumb for paying their prices.

Funny, on my last two trips I don't recall having to avoid side streets or having a set time to get back for in Denver or NYC.
