I've never had a safety issue in Nee Orleans. Simply stay near the tourist areas at night and you'll be fine

I walked from the art Museum in Philly to the Liberty Bell, then to South St, down to the river, all after 8 pm, and I felt more safe there than I would standing in from of NOPD in broad daylight

Re the comments about the Quarter smelling like garbage. Funny, I have been out walking the streets early in the morning & literally every time the streets, from the store fronts all the way across the streets to the other side, are both steam cleaned & pressure washed. The streets & sidewalks literally have nothing on them, no smell. Then, the tourists start to arrive. Any guess where the smell comes from? If you can't stand the Quarter, good, stay the hell away, as that leaves more space for me & others who enjoy it.

Also lol at the people saying NYC is dirtier than New Orleans. Maybe if you hang out in the South Bronx. I love visiting New Orleans and enjoy it for what it is but the French Quarter smells like trash and stale alcohol. New York does not. No other major tourist area of any city does.
