I understand the pull on this. It’s not something I would ever do, because I think it’s awful public speaking, but the reality is that these are kids with undeveloped prefrontal cortexes who feel strongly, right or wrong, about something, and have a live captive audience for probably the first time in their lives. So while I don’t like it, I understand why they might feel compelled to do so. I’m less sympathetic towards the adults in their lives who likely encouraged them to do so.

No, i'm not.

Ok, how many speeches from valedictorians have you heard where the speaker boasts about their own accomplishments, in a rather selfish manner.

Spouting off your politics is no different. I'm sorry you can't connect the dots.

Exactly, MAGA crowd is so stupid they don’t understand. And besides, those blacks can be just as smart as a white kid but MAGA is too stupid to realize it.

Saw one last night where the young lady blasted immigration policy and said she was not proud to be an American.

She said get patents were immigrants.

Also low key called the community and school a bunch of racists.

did no student stand up and tell her to basically STFU? if not, that school lacks leaders in the student body

99% of the people in the audience weren't paying attention anyway. No one cares about the valedictorian, and no one remembers them.

If they've earned the honor to speak as valedictorian it's their privilege to direct their speech in whichever way they see fit.

its also the privilege of the rest of the student body to tell her to shut the frick up too. not a thing the school can do about it.

i can tell you i would have never sat there and been preached to by our valedictorian and hopefully im raising sons that wouldnt either.

I don't put much stock into what those kids say. This one will probably go to a big school and take up a useless except for politics major.

If this upsets you wait until you find out that the speech has to be given to the school administration and they help the students through the process and must sign off on it

I get she's just a stupid kid. But i don't understand how self absorbed these people are. The audience is full of parents and family members there ONLY to celebrate a major milestone in their child's life. And this a-hole is taking that opportunity to preach to them about how bad they are, and how righteous she is. It's narcissism at it's finest.

bullshite

Sitting there and hearing something you disagree with for 5 minutes is part of being an adult, so for people in that situation - welcome to adulthood

Don’t be trashy and interrupt the ceremony with expletives

Like I said, a prestigious university filled with those shites and a degree only useful for politics. Maybe a law degree to boot.

Yeah, this is insane to me. Want to quietly walk out? Godspeed. But shouting down a speaker just because you don’t like what they are saying is straight up Progressive-esque feefees bullshite

It’s a graduation not a political convention. There’s absolutely no reason to be discussing politics in such a speech.

I'm sure OP would have no problem if it was politics he agreed with

The school itself needs to flat out say, this will not get political.

If you choose to do so, the mic will get silenced and we will proceed with the ceremony without the speech.
