the young lady blasted immigration policy and said she was not proud to be an American.

She said her parents were immigrants.

So are her parents illegal immigrants, part of unchecked mass refugee programs from 3rd world including too many criminals and backwards people pushed onto citizens, or fraudulent asylum claims; or is she just not as smart as she thinks she is and can’t understand the difference between legal immigration and illegal immigration?

Please tell me the crowd threw piss balloons at her and told her to get her arse out of this country if she didn’t like it.

That’s what I don’t get. All these people bitching about good American policies do realize they can leave the country whenever they please right? Apparently it’s not that bad since these people never go anywhere.

I wont speak for OP, but very often the level of outrage over these situations depends on whether tha listener agrees with the speaker or not.

well, that’s the irony also

America has some of the most lenient immigration policies - US Citizens who do not agree and want to leave just can’t

Freedom of speech, but you also had a right to tell her to STFU.

During My daughter’s valedictorian speech she gave very subtle props to President Trump. It was at the end of his first term. Then she gave a couple of comments about her upcoming college education and ended it with “as a great American leader keeps saying, give me 4 more years”.

100% - OP can correct me if I'm wrong but if she had enthusiastically embraced the current immigration policies, etc. I would think OP would not have posted here about telling kids not to be political in these speeches and he would have given her a rousing ovation.

No one wants political discussions at a graduation event. No one.

You have to be a total retard to think anyone really cares to hear your political views in a setting like this.

If that school allowed that nonsense to occur they are an inept organization. The graduation ceremony is a school promoted and endorsed program which allows student participation. Whereas a student successfully completing the state required curriculum earns a diploma there is not a guaranteed right to be allowed to participate. It is how schools keep some sort of control of the program. As a former high school principal all speeches were required to be submitted for review and approval prior to the ceremony. There has to be some sort of decorum. A high school graduation is not an appropriate time for nonsensical political promotion or demonization of an opposing group of folks.

If they've earned the honor to speak as valedictorian it's their privilege to direct their speech in whichever way they see fit.

The valedictory address is the farewell statement delivered at a graduation ceremony. The speeches are generally inspirational and persuasive. The aim of the address is to inspire the graduates and to thank individuals responsible for their successes while reflecting on the accomplishments of the class. The valedictory address allows a representative of the graduating class to bid a final farewell to the students and to the school, as the graduates begin the next phase of their lives.

The OP , and many (most ?) on this board would have had zero issues with your daughter’s pro-Trump comments during her valedictorian speech… it’s only when people who they disagree with speak up, is when they have a problem .

Put me in the group who thinks any kid who worked hard enough and is smart enough to be valedictorian has EARNED the right to say whatever they want.. and as someone who thinks Trump is a conman, shyster and snake-oil salesman- who’s schtick you and roughly half of America fell for hook line & sinker- id even endorse the right of a kid who’s pro-Trump to endorse him in their valedictorian speech .
