Saw one last night where the young lady blasted immigration policy and said she was not proud to be an American.

She said her parents were immigrants.

Also low key called the community and school a bunch of racists.

Time and place, people….

I'll bet her parents were the first to stand and applaud when she was finished.

Part of growing up is learning how to read a room and know your audience.

Relax, man. I'm sure you will survive the 5 minutes it takes to let some 18 year old tell you their opinion of the world.

If they've earned the honor to speak as valedictorian it's their privilege to direct their speech in whichever way they see fit.

A valedictorian has earned the right to pick the topic. Maybe it went over your head?

It’s a graduation not a political convention. There’s absolutely no reason to be discussing politics in such a speech.

I’m proud
I’m white
I’m American
I’m liberal
I’m male

I’m sure her speech was touching and will eventually help the world.

No he hasn't.

If you decide to take advantage of a captive audience who (let's be honest) didn't show up to hear you speak by making everyone uncomfortable and showing off your own supposed moral superiority, you're an a-hole.

And if I agree with what you have to say... you're still an a-hole.

She earned the platform, she can say what she wants up there

Your feelings are not her problem, delicate as they may be

Valedictorian speech is not a platform to boast about yourself. You are speaking on behalf of your classmates. I'm sure her views were not supported by all of her classmates. Thus the reasoning getting political is idiotic at best. But, you continue to clap like a seal.

You’re thinking of a class orator.

You don’t get to make up rules for what a speech should be to justify your faux outrage over this.

My classes valedictorian speech was wrestlingcentric. Wcw/wwf. It was awesome!
