If I can give a bit of unsolicited advice, your first half marathon shouldn't be about speed - it should be about finishing it period. Distance is a mental game. Once you can confidently run a 10K, a half isn't hard physically, but your brain will wear you out.
One of the best training tools for a half (and ultimately a full) marathon is the Hal Higdon training guide. It will help you steadily increase your weekly mileage in a safe, injury free manner, as well as get your brain ready to tackle 13.1 miles.
