Just went through this for a red (yellow) light. Called the DA to ask what to do to get it reduced to a non-moving violation, and they said to take any LA approved defensive driving course and bring it to the judge on the court date.
On the court date, the judge started off by asking everyone that took a course to get in line. One by one they took the fine and tossed the ticket.

Doesn't help your situation but the mom of my best friend worked at the DAs office in LC. That wonderful lady made so many tickets in Calcasieu Parish disappear for me including one in a school zone in Sulphur.

I think you can only use this once if I am not mistaken so if you ever might need to use it to get a DWI erased later in life for an even worse driving decision I would just pay the speeding fine.

Get a lawyer and he can plead it to "faulty odometer" or some such thing and it won't affect points on your license.

Don't go. Don't pay it. Resist arrest when you pulled over and notified there's a warrant for your arrest. Hope you are roughed up enough to sue, but also open a gofundme since that's seems to work for criminals (50/50 shot, I assume).

They say I have to show up in court.
There is no diversion or pleading down in advance.

The new school on Bluebonnet and Nicholson doesn’t have a house within 2 miles and there is a school zone.
In EBR, 99% of kids are bussed or dropped by parents. Schools zones are pointless here.

Appear on your court date (dressed for court), show respect to everyone, especially the judge and acknowledge your mistake.
Prior to your court appearance, complete the defensive driving course, bring a hard copy of the certificate of completion to court.
Be prepared to pay the fine, request they reduce the charges.

Don’t just go pay it. If you do it will go on your driving record and make your insurance go up. A lawyer can help but at the very least, go talk to the DA and see what kind of deal you can make to keep it off your record and minimize the fine. If that doesn’t work, ask for a continuance and get a lawyer.

So a state trooper pulled someone over in a school zone without knowing school wasn't in session?
I mean, it definitely seems like something you could get out of if that's the case, but that trooper ought to get reprimanded. That's ridiculous.

Most parishes if you just pay the damn ticket before the court date it doesn't go on your insurance. You were obviously speeding, so pay the damn ticket.
I got one in a school zone about a year and a half ago. I was pissed because I was only doing like 5mph over, but I really wasn't paying attention. The officer even told me if I pay it before the court date it won't go on my record. My record is till clean as a whistle.

While they probably didn't explain it, I'm sure the fact that the court date is mandatory has something to do with the fact that he was 15 over.
