re: Milroe going in the first round? McShay thinks a fairly strong possibility....
Posted by MWP on 4/25/25 at 12:41 pm
As a GM you would need nuts big enough to put in a wheelbarrow to take Milroe in the first. It would be a move that could legitimately end a career unless he morphed into a Super Bowl caliber QB. I have said all along that he could be a Taysom Hill kind of player and his football speed is legit. He has 4th round written all over him.
re: Older Broncos

My first vehicle was an ‘82 Bronco with a 351W under the hood. It was pretty painless to work on but that was in the late 80’s. I am sure parts could be an issue now. My neighbor actually has an ‘80 and it literally brings flashbacks of mine seeing that big Bronco. I chuckle the gymnastics I attempted in the backseat when I had a cooperating date back then. My neighbor actually dropped a Coyote motor into his which he says was an easy but expensive swap.
Those 78-early 90’s Broncos hardly get any love while the smaller ones pre-78 get the attention. I would love to get another one. Not sure if the prices on the big ones are actually ok. The smaller ones go for a kidney and a first born.

JT has the most bipolar game of golf that I know of. He can look completely lost one week and then go blister a course the next.
Probably shoots a 77 today.

I have an SP10. I got it a few years after Remington took the brand. Pretty much got it because I just thought it was cool to have a 10 gauge. Kinda like taking a sledge hammer to kill flies when a fly swatter would work. It’s heavy as all get out so very little recoil but it’s a safe queen now. Really no use when a modern day 3.5” 12 gauge with todays ammo can pretty much do the same job.

re: Monroe area courses
Posted by MWP on 4/17/25 at 9:32 am
Yep you made it to the top of Everest for golf courses in the NE LA area if you played Squire. As mentioned the only other course in the same stratosphere as Squire is Mystic Creek but it’s in El Dorado, AR and is somewhat of a drive from Monroe. The suggestions already given are pretty spot on. Bayou Desiard and Calvert are both private but are well maintained and legit. Obviously you will need a connection to get on either. That leaves Frenchman’s which is probably the course for y’all. It’s an ok course but a much better option than Chennault that is a borderline goat ranch. Then you have Black Bear in Delhi which would be my default public course recommendation but it’s a drive from Monroe too so take that into consideration.
re: Over the top advice.

I honestly started doing this bad when I got back into playing earlier this year after my hunting season break. It was literally a mind game because I couldn’t fix it until I went down a rabbit hole and came across Justin Rose’s swing advice about the whole skimming the rock across water. You aren’t doing that at all by being over the top and you can actually remember it during a round. Kinda like wax on wax off from the Karate Kid. It has worked tremendously for me and it was actually kinda coincidental that Justin was replicating the move while somewhat exaggerated during the Masters.
re: Will Jordan Spieth ever complete the career grand slam?

No the wildest moment in sports would be if Phil actually pulled it off which begs another question, who is more likely to do it next, Phil or Jordan and I’m honestly not sure if Phil is still exempt?

Speaking of Bryson’s commitment to golf and the reference to him hitting 500 balls a day, the dude is literally closing the range down since he has arrived in Augusta. I think Golf Channel has a Bryson cam just to document him on the range. The dude has quirks but nobody can question his desire to succeed by redefining his body, his swing, and equipment. If anybody deserves to win this week it is him.

Rory kinda falls apart in the first few rounds at Augusta lately but makes the cut then starts digging out of the grave on Saturday and then starts playing lights out on Sunday to creep back on to the first page of the leaderboard, but is never really a threat. If he can put together a solid start which it looks like he is doing nicely today I think he is gonna be hard to beat.

Noticed that dude wearing the LSU shirt right behind Freddie as he chipped it in. You know he posts here.
re: Have you ever almost died?

Put on a vent with Covid in 2021. I really don’t remember much other than the Dr said something less than 10% chance of me coming off but then he said I would for sure not make it if I didn’t go on it. I was by myself in ICU. Couldn’t have family. Hospital was on lockdown. Pretty sad you can’t even tell ur family good bye in person. I told my kids and my wife I loved them over the phone and vaguely remember talking about my funeral. Pretty surreal looking back on it.
re: Do you get as excited about the Masters as you did 20 or so years ago?
Posted by MWP on 4/8/25 at 5:55 pm
Pretty well nailed it. Have an upvote sir.
I love Masters week. It’s the only tournament that I can think back X years ago and remember that Tiger or Phil or Jack or Seve or Tom did that right there on that hole. The reason is like you said, it is played at the same place every year so every time you see Amen Corner or Hogan’s Bridge or hear the crowd noise on the back nine on Sunday it triggers a memory for me.

re: A24 ‘Warfare’ (92% RT) Directed by Alex Garland and Iraq War Vet Ray Mendoza (Opens 4/10)

Not a movie but a mini-series on HBO called Generation Kill. Pretty damn accurate portrayal of a Recon unit going into Iraq during the invasion, but doesn’t have a ton of battle scenes if that’s what you are looking for. Mainly just the play by play and it is real. Throws a lot of actual Officers and Senior Enlisted under the bus. And backs up. Surprised it was even greenlighted by the USMC since several of those were still active when it came out on HBO. It was actually based on a book written by Rolling Stones reporter Evan Wright who imbedded with one of the platoons.
re: 1923 season two (SPOILERS)

I’ll give TS a little credit for doing the ending right with both Tulsa Kings and the last episode of Lioness Season 2 was pretty good but he shite the bed here.
The reason it felt rushed is because we had to spend almost a third of it wrapping up Rainwater’s situation which only distracted from the main plots concerning everything going on in Montana. I will say there was a glimmer of hope when Spencer finally hooked up with Alex but TS killed that feel good ending when he did the same with her character and just walking into Whifield’s house and putting 3 rounds in him after 6 episodes of a 1923 version of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles was about as anti climactic as it gets.

Pretty sad when fans from the team he played for in college don’t even think he is worthy and Bama fans are almost always glass half full concerning former players. I have said from Day 1 he is not a legit every down QB but could be a great Taysom Hill type player.
re: Any issues with a man in 40's taking creatine?
Posted by MWP on 4/8/25 at 12:45 pm
I’m 53. Training schedule like you, except traditional lifting in the AM and jits in the PM along with some light standup stuff mixed in. I took creatine back in the day among other stuff but that was a past life. Kinda wrote it off but honestly reading 777’s posts on its benefits I got back on it last year and also thanks to him upped dosage from 5mg to 10mg and it does indeed work. I use Creapure powder mixed with water.

I am totally lost now on how the Dutton’s get the name train station in Yellowstone now since Whitfield never really gave that explanation to anybody else other than Banner and it was never used or explained since. Maybe they just find out by chance about that piece of Wyoming and name it train station because of the gun fight that happened there. Who knows? Thanks TS.
Jack’s wife slash widow. I guess she lost the baby during the rabies shots fiasco? Was that ever made clear?
There was so much more TS could have done with this series than how we wrote this. The whole Alex story leaving England was a trainwreck. I thought the meeting between her and Spencer would salvage it somewhat but her dying put a bow on that disaster. The whole Rainwater thing was a complete distraction.

We didn’t have enough screen time with old Anakin to get that model with Obi Wan and Yoda at the end but otherwise agree old man Anakin should have been there instead of young Anakin who was an arse most of his life.
