Your ticket will likely be on a Monday. It may even say it's at 830am. It's likely at 1pm (you can call the DA's office/traffic to confirm)

That first date is your arraignment. You don't need to hire an attorney before that. If they won't reduce it to a non-moving where you pay a small fine and court costs, then tell them you want to enter a not guilty plea and THEN talk to attorneys.

The moving violation will frick your insurance. Usually they'll reduce it. Don't pay an attorney for this until you have to.

*ETA: if you have a CDL, by chance, they won't budge

Not all tickets can be dealt with outside of court.

You can usually pay on line, but be sure to print your recipt and throw it in the glove box in case you need it the next time you're out terrorizing the community.

Am I the only one who didn't know school zones applied in the summer? Some have 50mph speed limits outside of zone hours, and you want me doing 25mph on July fricking 7th? That hasn't gotten me stopped in 20+ years of drving. Sorry OP

They don’t mess around with school zones

My only complaint is not many kids walk to school anymore

I had a buddy that was a councilman. He told me he could get me out of pretty much any speeding ticket as long as it wasn’t a school zone.

Good luck.

Try to talk to the DA first. They’ll probably just let you pay a fine so you don’t have to go to court.

I would definitely bring up when you were speeding, b/c school is out an they may just not want to deal with it. They may offer an NPC, which is dismissal for court costs.

Back in 94, I got a ticket for doing 35 on Jefferson hwy in 25 mile school zone. I had to go to court night before Thanksgiving. I was giving 3 day jail time suspended to 3 month probation. $ 296.00 fine plus I had to take a $250.00 1 day driving class on a Saturday in New Orleans that lasted 6 hours on Canal Street.

Sure, but 40 in a 25? Even with the school zone this doesn’t sound right. I’m not in Louisiana, but I’ve never heard of requiring a court appearance for something like this.

If in fact school was out for the year when this happened it might be worth seeing if something can be made of that.

If you're not a habitual offender of traffic laws, you can get a traffic lawyer and get it downgraded to a non moving violation like seatbelt or something - your insurance company wont see it and in the long run it will save you thousands.
